Snowstorm next weekend?

We gave up after an hour, roughly shovel half drive way. The snow plower came once in the morning, we’re in a cal-de-sac so snow plower usually skip us and other small circles in the community. We saw car drove into our circle and got stuck. The temperature will be around 26 highest the following few days, so the ice will less likely to melt. I do think having school custodians go to work on Monday is cruel. Why don’t Fcps board members drive to schools tomorrow instead, that way they can evaluate in person if it’s safe enough to open schools on Tuesday or Wednesday?

Given all the ice, what is the chance of school opening Tuesday?

gosh, zero!

go back to sleep. there is no school this week.

Tuesday? No. Montgomery county preemptively canceled through Tuesday which is really what the VA districts should’ve done as well. *Maybe* a 2 hour delay Wednesday and I’m 50/50 on that.

I don’t think FCPS will want to warm the buildings to get kids in for 4 hours one day this week. My bet is that FCPS is out all week. The ice is brutal out there.

I do think if they open they’ll cancel the 2 hour early release. But I can easily see all schools in this area being closed through Wednesday as well.

Teachers are supposed to go in Thursday.

Virtually none. Anything that didn't get plowed or shoveled yesterday is a thick layer of ice right now. I shoveled four times yesterday, and my driveway is still only marginal.

Due to the cold temps this week, this will be more impactful than the 24-30” of snow we got in 2016. I’d say that this is a top-3 winter event in the past 40 years (1996, 2010).

Anyone who thinks schools will reopen this week simply has not tried shoving this block of ice on the ground. No one can clear any sidewalks today. Or the rest of the week.

A lot of road clearing has to happen in neighborhoods today if they think we can go tomorrow. lol

Agree. No chance of FCPS opening on Tuesday. Only a tiny chance FCPS will open on Wednesday.

My neighborhood hasn't seen a plow once yet for this storm. No school bus could _safely_ pick up any of the kids in our neighborhood at least until our main neighborhood roads are plowed, salted, and sanded.

Salt and sand won’t even work now. It’s already iced over and sub freezing . The sand and salt can’t melt it at this point.

Maybe they can do their meeting virtually.

We are going to work today on clearing out the 15”+ feet from the end our driveway to the lane the plow made last night, which is now a pile of solid ice. I don’t know why, but after every storm we have like this the plow truck leaves a huge gap between the curb and the plow. Does anyone else notice the same? Just curious. There aren’t even any cars parked on the street.
