Dog sleds. |
A plow flipped over on Van Dorn street. Our road was plowed multiple times before dark. Kids are now night sledding on it |
They did it last year for a delay after winter break. |
I agree that we have too many days off, and the snow calls in general can be pretty ridiculous. But this one's different. The plows weren't keeping up with the main roads with the sleet, and now this stuff is like moving cement. |
Did you read what was written? Snow days are fine. But endless days off aren't. This year has been terrible for kids to get in the flow. |
Or walking with snow shoes. When I was young I hiked over hill and dale in three feet of snow to dig my school out. |
Email Geovanny Ponce, Chief of Schools. He’s the one that sent out the call for custodians. gjponce@fcps.edu |
^ yep this tracks. Awful |
Let’s just say that no principal would be upset if every parent on this thread emailed him to express their feelings about the email to bring in custodians. |
They can call in if they can’t get there but understand that some people will be going to work tomorrow, just like some went today. Look at those plowing our roads. Or police, or the utility workers. DH works in a private company and they plan on opening tomorrow. We have been shoveling all day today to make sure we can get the cars out. If he doesn’t go in, he doesn’t get paid and the clients will expect him to be there. Of course, the roads and weather may tell them all otherwise and make them stay home if the roads aren’t passable. I hope the custodians, my husband’s company and everyone make the right call for safety. My own job closed for just tomorrow. |
This administration runs an authoritarian regime. They have little care. |
Yes, but they will listen more if enough parents complain about how custodians are being treated. They don’t want to look bad in cases like this. |
+1. I hope Geovanny Ponce also has to report to his office tomorrow at 10 am. |
Lol. |
| We shovel snow this morning, then DH did 2nd round in the late afternoon, and when we tried to do 3rd round around 8pm, it’s thick hard ice, DH had to use metal shovel to break the ice then we could remove the ice. We gave up after an hour, roughly shovel half drive way. The snow plower came once in the morning, we’re in a cal-de-sac so snow plower usually skip us and other small circles in the community. We saw car drove into our circle and got stuck. The temperature will be around 26 highest the following few days, so the ice will less likely to melt. I do think having school custodians go to work on Monday is cruel. Why don’t Fcps board members drive to schools tomorrow instead, that way they can evaluate in person if it’s safe enough to open schools on Tuesday or Wednesday? |
