We decided to leave the school so no longer get communication. He was made 4/5th head with MS before the yeah ended and is now full lower? It doesn’t surprise me (what other choice did they have since assistant head could no longer take the LS grades), but this is going to be a real stress on DB. I hope this setup is only realllllly temp and not all year. That’s going to be 8 extra grades for him and not even the age group he is expert at. DB and the MS at least was the better run of the 3 divisions, I worry this will ruin that now.

I agree. All MS families should be worried about this. I know I am. We have tuition insurance and are seriously thinking about backing-out. We went through this with another school and don't want to be around for another implosion. I hope this me thinking overdramatically but I don't know how DB is going to handle all of this but with our kids having the same experience as they have in the past.

Remember the assistant heads in LS and MS will be taking on bigger roles this year. It’s not like he’s having to do PK3-8 all by himself.

Is anyone else getting the vibe that DB is being prepped as a potential head of school?

I agree, he did a great job.

Pp again-an earlier post referenced this departure as well as the assistant head of athletics. If that’s true it was (another) bad move to not mention both departures in the email.

The assistant head of athletics was let go in June as part of budget layoffs.

So they are doing the very very prolonged pull the bandaid off reveal of the situation then…

They've refrained from announcing departures in the past too. Not sure why.....

Usually schools want a replacement hired before they announce a departure.

That can hardly be true. Replacements don’t happen in a day. You can’t expect families to never know who is still employed till the position is filed again.

Big loss for SSFS!

Apparently he left to be closer to family. Same reason they gave for the head of US who left last year.

That is possible. An external search may be impossible to pull off in the short term

And, at least in the past, search cmtes and search advisory cmtes have been announced to the community and there was cross-sectional participation, including parents.

He might be a candidate (and a good one at that), but the BOT will certainly engage a search firm again and conduct a national/international search.

Both my kids (current middle schooler and former middle schooler) said DB should just be HOS. The kids really love him.

His son graduated. Looks like they are moving closer to where he’s going to college

The BOT already outlined what they will be looking for in the next HOS. DB doesn't fit the description.

What makes you say that? Not saying he does or doesn’t, just don’t know how you concluded that so easily? At the MS level he seems to have been managing admin, budgeting etc isn’t he?

Not PP, but a SSFS parent and I know DB. He has all you say, and is a great leader. The email said they are looking for experience with enrollment management, business experience, and advancement (ie fundraising). I don’t think he has those things - he is an educator.

Has to start somewhere. All HOS should be former educators and continue to be strong advocates for educators. These other skills are learned on the job.

SSFS can’t take a chance on someone lacking experience in these key areas; not if they want to stabilize the school.

DB’s next job will be HOS or assistandHOS but not at SSFS. Why would he want that! His kid graduates this year and he’ll be well positioned to go somewhere functioning and stable.
