By a 16 year old counselor who was following camp policy of asking visitors what their deal was. |
He was a breath of fresh air for the school as opposed to usual white hetero males that most independent heads of schools have |
No one had complaints about him not being white and/or hetero. The issues were with the chaos and toxic culture that led to a shocking level of turnover. |
The fact that so many people of color left while he was HOS leads me to believe otherwise. |
Who will be the interim? |
Can't leave a school in the lurch like that. |
Lets not forget that on his watch in this past year - actually in the last 4 months ALONE - the school lost the Head of the Upper School (who had been there less than 1 year) and the Head of the Lower School. The Head of the Middle School ended up taking on 2 extra grades, and they put the Assistant HOS in as the Interim Lower School Head. Now she - the Assistant HOS - has been appointed the Acting HOS. And they lost students and had to fire staff. So....Im pretty sure its not bc of his race or gender. |
My recent graduate is really happy abt this. |
This. And lots of people who left are POC with strong leadership skills and talents. |
FWIW my kid loves the school and we are hopeful this will bring renewal. We believe in and support the school and the community. |
As a current parent at the school and a person of color, I don’t think it had anything to do with race. It was clear there was something wrong under his leadership with all the turnover. I am glad the board made this decision to save what is left of the school. I am looking forward to the future with a new head of school. |
+1 In support and hopeful for the future |
Didn’t he split his time with his consulting business? |
Yes. All the more reason to be glad to open a new chapter. |
The removal of a head only brings more transition - and negatively impacts advancement and enrollment - two key elements of a school’s financial success. Not trying to squash the optimism for the future but it is clear the immediate future will be bumpy. And if the board ended the contract, they are likely having to pay out the rest of the contract anyway. None of this reflects sound or strategic planning. Will be rough for the leadership team that is left in place to clean this up. |
