If you hadn't noticed it's been an incredibly competitive admissions season and there are lots of kids who did everything right and didn't get into their reach schools.

I’m so sorry to hear this. Feel super bad for high stats kids that get stuck with Richmond. Did they apply to other schools? State flagship? Liberal arts schools that are less selective? I personally would be thrilled to send my kid to many/most of the LACs ranked 30-50 in the US News. So many wonderful colleges. Best of luck. Sending good thoughts to those kids.

It seems like you're contradicting yourself? Richmond is ranked #22, not that it matters.

Agree that rankings don’t matter. I personally like most of the LACs ranked 30-50 better than UR. Not because of rankings, which are meaningless. Just using it to point the OP in the direction of the schools.

School has large endowment but is way overrated.

There are schools in the 30-50 US News that I think are actually top 20 LAC (eg, Kenyon, #45). And there are top 25 ranked schools (eg, Richmond, # 22) that I’m not sure crack the top 50. Rankings are off.

We are visiting on April 5th. I don’t think I’ve seem more discourse on one school recently. What we know is that we’ve got good merit and any student has funding to do research in the summer and it is an easy commute from the DMV. What we don’t know is it truly Arcadia or the Truman show. I think I am most curious to visit of any school because of the endless thread.

Form your own opinions. Will be interested to see what you think. Personally, we weren’t impressed with our visit. Didn’t end up applying. School seems overrated.

Would you please enlighten us as to the methodology that you use for your rankings, with examples? It would be so helpful to the rest of us.

Maybe you could enlighten us with the precise US News methodology since - as far as I can tell - the UR supporters cite only the #22 US News ranking as a reason for going to this school.

Don’t k ow anyone in VA who goes here. Far better public and private schools out there.

Sounds like you made the with call.

Ten years ago UR was giving away money to get low/medium stat kids from the NE to go there. Mostly for the weather. It was an ok regional school. Through marketing and gaming the US News, they were able to rise in the US News rankings and then they jacked up their tuition and, to their credit, have persuaded some parents to send their kids there for $80k. To be fair, they aren’t the only school to do this. Northeastern and BU also come to mind. As far as the quality of the education, nothing has changed.

Richmond’s #22 ranking in US News is a joke

I have an extremely hard time believing that any high stats kids are left only with Richmond, even considering that this is an especially tough admission year.

I work in college counseling. High stats kids still have good options. It’s been a tough year but there are still a lot of good options out there.

Most of this thread is simply people being catty and dismissive with no actual facts. No value add whatsoever.
