Why do staunch republicans hate electric vehicles?

The government has been propping up the fossil fuel industry for 150 years

Not true at all. Fossil fuels provide the cheapest form of energy for vehicles. There's nothing to prop up.

It’s a mystery since their culture war idol Elon Mosk is now spreading disinformation about mail in voting promoting election fraud.

Now that BMW - https://lagradaonline.com/en/bmw-hydrogen-engines/ is joining Toyota in the move to hydrogen vehicles it is just a matter of time before plug in EVs join the ranks of the DeLorean as quaint experiments in automotive history.

Exactly. OP is way behind on this issue. Now leftist groups are committing sabotage on EVs: https://www.dw.com/en/germany-tesla-gigafactory-hit-by-far-left-sabotage/a-68440976

But caging children and separating toddlers from their mothers and fathers at the border was OK, right?

Not trying to derail this thread, but......
1. Both Obama and Biden caged kids at the border.
2. Separating adults and children to ensure that those bringing the children are actually their parents is better than allowing child traffickers to bring children into the country then allowing them to walk free with the children in their custody. Where are the 85,000+ children that this administration has lost?

Take a look at how many non-electric sedan models have disappeared lately Even the expensive Charger and Challenger models are ending. The obsession with electric cars has taken choices away from people, and pushed prices higher. The exceptions appear to be the Japanese companies which have worked with electric the longest, though Mazda has gotten rid of the 5 and 6 and only offers the 3.

This is hyperbolic. Nobody is going to confiscate your gas car. Mandates on car sales won't be in effect til 2030, which is a long ways away. And even then, gas powered cars will continue to be bought and sold in the used car market. And to call it some kind of "hate" misses the mark wildly.

So you'll replace petroleum.

What is your plan to replace all the products that come from petroleum including the plastic inside of your EV ??

Wedge issue theater to distract the base from real issues and plundering of our tax dollars ex. Israel, Ukraine, open border, inflation, insider trading, visa fraud, offshoring, wage stagnation, student loan crisis.

I was given an electric vehicle for my CO ski trip and it was BY FAR, the worst vehicle experience of my life. No way I buy one now. Still, I don't hate electric vehicles. I am indifferent to them. When we have lots of new nuclear power plants ready to go, then I will consider one.

caging......bet you say literally a lot too. And believe the border agents whipped the migrants. Do better

I’m a Republican and I don’t mind EVs. In fact investing in TSLA stock back in early 2019 made me very rich. What I don’t like is Democrats trying to shove EVs down our throats for the sake of the “climate” despite the environmental benefits being questionable.

If we can ever figure out fusion it’s game over for other forms of energy. It produces a million times more energy than fission without all the nasty radioactive by products. I think it’s only a matter of time. See recent fusion progress at the Livermore National Lab.

The same Democrats pushing EVs are flying around in their private jets.

Hypocrisy at its best.

An actual conservative prefers the tried and true over the new and shiny. Gasoline powered vehicles generally work reliably in a myriad of conditions for a decade or more before requiring any costly repairs. EVs are still in the teething phase, and there are plenty of horror stories of 5-8 year old vehicles needing battery replacements that cost more than the vehicle is worth. Partly this is true because the EV field is rapidly evolving, and some models never really catch on.

Additionally, there is the mandatory weirdness that seems to come with EVs. Electric door handles, gull-wing doors, everything is a touch screen and so forth. And there is also the spectacular combustion potential in a Lithium battery, and the field is sown for EV resistance.

That's before you even get into any conspiracy theories.
