Will your child wear a mask when they go back to school?

My DC has been attending camp all summer where it’s a mix of masked, unmasked. No issues. Sounds like your school needs to get a better handle on bullying if it’s an issue at yours.

Going maskless outside isn't comparable to sitting 1.5 ft from someone indoors without masks.

Nobody does. All of the bullying comes from the direction of the universal masking group.

At our school, it's the opposite. The anti-maskers are very loud and aggressive, kind of like the ones on this board.

I thought the concern was that someone would make fun of the kid for wearing a mask, my bad.

What school? I’d like to avoid. Thanks!

Nobody makes fun of people masking? Now you’ve shown you’re a liar.

Make fun of people for general masking? No. Make fun of people that preach/bully about universal masking from their soapbox? Yes.

I wonder if you'll be the 1 in 8 people to get long haul covid. That article in the post the other day talked about things like psychosis. That doesn't sound fun.

It doesn’t sound fun, but covid is never going away. So to avoid this risk are we supposed to force our kids to mask in school forever?

Maybe not you, but there are plenty who make fun of those for masking.

I guess, I just don't think this is a big of an issue as you are making it out to be. Maybe there's just a lot of regional variation even within MoCo. At my younger DC's daycare, the majority of the parents are still masking their kids voluntarily. I'm willing to bet that at our ES open house on Friday, at least half of the parents/kids will be masked. I know some who are skipping the open house altogether because they view it as a potential super-spreader event.

FWIW, my 7yo had to wear a mask indoors at camp last week because he had been exposed to Covid. He complained about it because even inside they run around a lot and he found it uncomfortable, but at no time did he cite teasing as the reason. At this point kids are used to seeing other kids in masks just like glasses, etc.

Yeah, because there’s talk always about some people wearing glasses. Give me a break!

As a kid I was made fun of for wearing glasses. Good life lesson, teach your kids to stand up for themselves.

Better life lesson. Teach your kid not to make fun of others.

If your child has an issue when they return to school in a mask, deal with it then. But don't let your anxiety over the mere possibility of it eat you up in the meantime.

You might think it’s making fun of those on a soapbox but I bet if your kid overhears they conflate it’s with anyone who masks. The better example is just not to make fun of people at all.

Anonymous wrote:Just saw some of the testimonies for the upcoming MCPS BOE meeting and believe it or not, there are still a couple of stray people pleading for universal masking. They are fighting a losing battle because the BOE knows that most parents, students, and teachers prefer not to mask.

And the Board/district isn’t going to want to go against the CDC, since then they’d have to come up with their own justifications for instituting and removing masking.

Who do those scientists at the CDC think they are telling us to mask? If we want to spread covid to others even those who don't want it and have to live with the long-term side effects, it's our right!

I’m not sure who they are, since the official recommendations from the CDC say kids and teachers don’t need to mask, but that they can make an individual choice to do so if they are at particularly high risk or are otherwise worried about Covid.
