Will your child wear a mask when they go back to school?

I have no issues with someone choosing to not wear a mask themselves, if (a) they are informed of the information in my post, and (b) are over the age of 18.

However, I find it morally bankrupt to make a decision or have a "choice" to unmask for a minor

Did you know that seatbelts were only made mandatory in the U.S. since 1984? Prior to that, it was a choice. I see this as a very similar issue, for now. Don't get me wrong - someday the masks may not be required. I just don't think it's today.

Keep your children safe. Take care.

There is no equivalency between seatbelts and masks. Seatbelts have very little downside. Masks definitely do. My kid has had COVID twice and is vaccinated and wore her mask when it was required. No more. We’re done.

The anxiety in this county is insane.

Really? I thought it was an apt analogy. Both save lives and both have a downside. Seems good to me.

Seriously? Seatbelts have downside and they are proven to work. Masks have been around a long time. If it were NBD to wear one, we all would have worn them pre-covid. Anyway, if you want to wear one to prevent covid then you need to wear it at home 24-7 since that’s where and how most people catch covid.

I was really pleased to drop my child off at an indoor birthday party this weekend and see zero masks in the entire building. I saw the faces of some of my kid’s friends’ parents for the first time in 2 years. It made me hopeful that this school year is going to be normal finally.

Speech issues are not due to masking and they haven’t masked in six months. Get therapy.

I'm not sure what school your kids go to but there was still plenty of masking at ours. It's not just about one kid no longer wearing a mask, there are affects from everyone they interact with wearing masks too.

My sister was one of the few teachers in her school to stop wearing one once allowed because she felt it was impeding communication, kids were having trouble understanding her and she was continually having to repeat what she said.

One of my kids has a severe language disorder and has zero issues wearing masks and always masks. If a child is struggling that much with speech, there is something more serious than masking going on. And, we are talking about school aged kids, not 2-3 year olds (except those in PEP) so if they have language issues, someone between the school and parents failed to get them the help they needed or its not fixable.

The irony is that some people, including a failed BoE candidate, were pushing for continued mask mandates in the spring precisely because of those CAPP and PEP students in schools, exactly the groups that you seem to acknowledge could be hurt by mandates.

Kids are far more hurt by getting covid, their parents getting covid and losing their ability to care for them or other community members. But, you are pushing no masking as you are to lazy to wear a mask and understand that kids in Pep can have health issues as can their family and its best we help protect them and keep them healthy. A few hours of masking a day will not hurt them.

Mask as hard as you like my friend, just be sure to request an outside lunch for your DC too, the air circulation in the lunch rooms is pretty poor. Wouldn’t want all that hard work to go to waste when they have to mix with the anti-maskers!

If that poster even has kids (my guess is no kids, just cats), they’re definitely in VA, and probably haven’t left their house in months.

Just saw some of the testimonies for the upcoming MCPS BOE meeting and believe it or not, there are still a couple of stray people pleading for universal masking. They are fighting a losing battle because the BOE knows that most parents, students, and teachers prefer not to mask.

Nope, because I know marking can’t go on forever. Everyone in my house is finally vaccinated (was waiting on an under 5 kid), so I’m not making my kids mask this year. I do fully expect to get covid within the first couple of months of school opening.

And the Board/district isn’t going to want to go against the CDC, since then they’d have to come up with their own justifications for instituting and removing masking.

Who do those scientists at the CDC think they are telling us to mask? If we want to spread covid to others even those who don't want it and have to live with the long-term side effects, it's our right!

I wonder if you'll be the 1 in 8 people to get long haul covid. That article in the post the other day talked about things like psychosis. That doesn't sound fun.

Just face it that everyone arguing for universal masking is fighting a losing battle. Most aren’t going to mask, and the kids of parents who insist on wearing a mask are likely going to take it off as soon as they’re out of eye shot of their parents because no one is going to make them at school. Move on.

The venn diagram of people who suffer from long covid and people who have a history of anxiety is a perfect circle

Can we please not make fun of kids masking? My kid will be masking because he’ll be on days 8-10 post testing positive for Covid when school starts and he’s nervous about being made fun of for masking because apparently kids do that now.

Nobody does. All of the bullying comes from the direction of the universal masking group.

Yes, because he wants to.

Nobody makes fun of people masking? Now you’ve shown you’re a liar.
