The opposition to Reid has not abated. Rory Cooper, a conservative, authored a very critical piece that appeared in the Washington Post today. Meanwhile, the Fairfax NAACP has issued another press release today reiterating their concerns and disappointment.
Ultimately this all redounds to the detriment of the current School Board, which has pulled off the feat of antagonizing both the left and the right and stands to be tossed from office next year in recognition of their incompetence and hypocrisy. Their blunders with Reid’s appointment were by far not their only screw-ups over the past several years, but it may be the tipping point that ensures the likes of Omeish, Tholen, Cohen, Frisch, Pekarsky, and Sizemore Heizer never again hold public office. |
Ugh, he talks about FCPS enrollment drop and says "So surely our new superintendent would help solve that issue. Except Reid experienced a 2.3 percent loss herself." without acknowledging that a 2.3% drop is actually better than the national average during that time period, nor considering the effects of population shifts during that same period. I hate how dumbed down our civic discourse has become and how frequently these kind of super basic data analysis errors appear in both news/journalism and opinion pieces (and no, this isn't the exclusive domain of conservative-leaning media or writers). Manifest Idiocracy. |
Fairfax is 65-35 Democratic to GOP. The 3 At-Large members are safe as long as they get renominated, even more so for the incumbents in the more liberal Lee, Mason, Mount Vernon district. The only ones in serious trouble would be Tholen and Cohen given their more even partisan lean. Tell me how influential the Fairfax NAACP can be when Sean Perryman who headed the chapter only got 10 percent in Fairfax County versus 8 percent statewide in a primary after getting endorsements from most of the supervisors and school board? In the grand scheme of things, they are but just a tiny faction. With the next election more than an entire year away Ms. Reid's appointment won't be on the ballot, but rather her one-year track record as superintendent. |
Agree that the Lee, Mason and Mount Vernon members probably can serve as long as they want, but (1) the 65/35 ratio applicable in a national election isn't going to apply to a School Board contest next year; (2) all three of the at-large members will be vulnerable; (3) Sean Perryman's lack of success when seeking the BOS Chair position doesn't mean much when he was running against a long-term BOS incumbent with much greater name recognition; and (4) it remains to be seen, of course, how Reid navigates a much larger and more complex school district and whether she unites or further polarizes county residents. The one thing that seems clear is that the 2023 School Board election will be a referendum of sorts on how those who bother to vote in an off-year election feel about FCPS. The fact that both liberals and conservatives opposed Reid's appointment suggest that the assessment of the current School Board's performance is still declining, not improving. |

They are kids trying to get out of class. Instead of learning, which is what they need to do n |
Well those kids were definitely there to be winners. |
Stacey Langton threatened the school board on Twitter today and got her account suspended. What a loon! |
What are you talking about? Schools had crazy outbreaks once masks came off after spring break. Just look at the dashboard. |

The FCPS School Board activists are a threat to our kids every single day by pushing forward their agenda of gender ideology, sexualization, and political activism in spite of the objection from the majority of parents, students, and some school staff. Stacy Langton’s methods to fight this indoctrination might not be perfect, but they have been effective in that she brought to light things that were hidden; and for that, many parents are grateful and appreciate her advocacy and courage. Not sure why your chose this specific thread to mock Mrs. Langton’s, but there is no doubt that Superintendent Reid has bigger challenges ahead of her. |
Threatened them how? Details please. |
I searched the forum and this was the thread where her name was mentioned. Besides Dr Reid was sworn in yesterday so the thread topic seemed relevant. I could have started a new thread but it didn’t seem necessary. I don’t think her tactics are remotely acceptable. This lady seemed to have started out with a genuine concern, and like Asra Nomani, got more and more extreme and radicalized as she sought national right wing fame. These people are dangerous and a real detriment to our community and its civil discourse. |
The majority? On what do you base this claim? What did this Stacy Langton say? |
Masks came off March 1. The outbreaks didn’t happen until 6 weeks later or so. It was more to do with the more transmissible variant than the masks. CDC even said cloth masks were worthless. |
