When you're on your team page, click on "help" at the top right, then there are different topics that show how the points are calculated

It means shit.

Our old club played at least 4-5 tournaments to rack up points between August-December.

We switched to a great club that has a more player-development centered focus where teams play 1 tournament in the Fall. Ironically, my kid's team did win that big prestigious tournament t--but since they play far fewer tournament games they aren't as highly ranked.

It's a number/points games which means shit for any individual player's development.

Nobody asked if it means shit. Someone asked how the points are earned/calculated. The rankings exist, so people are going to be curious as to how they are calculated. Relax. Anger management maybe.

What calculations do tournaments use to bracket teams?

One thing they use is GotSoccer rankings.

I was an age group coordinator for a big tournament a while back, and we did use gotsoccer as a starting point. We didn't focus on the rankings though, but instead looked at the teams' competition histories, including the outcome of head-to-head match ups with other teams who had applied to our tournament. We also considered the strength of the league they played in (often this doesn't show up in gotsoccer) and the level of tournaments they'd played in. Sometimes we had first hand experience watching some of the teams play, and we'd consider opinions from knowledgeable folks in the club on how strong the team was. There are lots of judgement calls.

Our club tried to do flights strictly based on merit/team performance. We had experience at other tournaments that either put their unworthy home teams in higher brackets than warranted, or dropped them too low in a deliberate effort to win the flight for points. Those things don't help a tournaments reputation imo.

And they don't adhere to the "sit on the half of the field opposite your own team" so they were mixed in with our parents. Every time since then I've had to move away from NY parents sitting in the "wrong" half of the field.

What is up with that???

You are supposed to sit directly across from your home team's bench!! Do not sit pass the mid-line Parents still don't do this in the DMV. Don't get me started on behind the goal spectators.

Some host Bethesda parents in the Bethesda tournament stayed across from our bench the entire game and it just creates tension having to hear the other parents say sh*t about your team/players. I was ready to lose my mind.

Yep. We got this from the DMV parents. Spread out from the halfway point in both directions.

We have had the ref direct us to sit across from our own team's bench and to sit well back from the sideline to leave room for the line judge.

I've seen some refs confine parents to a box. One time, I walked nearly out to the street and around the whole park to get to the bathroom without being in the vicinity of the field outside the box.

Then I've seen other refs let parents stand behind the goal and yell at their terrified goalkeeping kids through the whole game.

Not a lot of consistency in NoVa.

3 times I have seen screaming parents ordered to their car by the ref.

Herndon Rec All-Star tournament a few weeks ago...my son's team (U8s) put all their water, coats, and all their belongs down on the sideline and are with the coach. They come back a few minutes later to where they were GOING TO SIT by their water and coats while subbed out and a bunch of parents from the other team moved in on their area and put their chairs right over the kids' water etc and their players were on the other side. WTF? There was another team we played who had parents on the player's side running up and down the entire sideline yelling instructions. One parent even crash into our coach on our team's side while she was focused on yelling to her son. You should heard all the screaming of "run through the ball", "kick it", "shoot" "Run", "Clear it", Just screaming. Parents ruin everything.

This just means exactly what it says, and is pretty fair. It would be very difficult to maintain both. This just means that both leagues, hopefully, will remain viable. Choice is good.

The guy that's for CCL and preaches having "choices" is a good thing, as if when we tryout for a club there's a box to check for which league we want our child to play in.
