He doesn’t do anything special compared to every other goalie. Definitely need a FO.

Agreed on both counts. Goalie is just okay, very overrated. For all the hype, he is “meh,” solid enough but nothing spectacular. If they had even a below average FOGO (45% range) then it is 10 more chances on offense per game and that would translate to 4 more goals a game. A better goalie instead of the hype machine and it’s 3 or 4 less goals per game. 11-10 loss becomes a 14-6 win and a championship

Thanks Captain Obvious.

Expect a few transfers to show up in July / August.

What position will they be recruiting for and from where?

Tech plays BL right now, McDonogh v Spalding at 730.

What is the origin of “Gilman Tech”? Never heard the backstory

Garrett applied for the PVI job last summer. Does he go after the DeMatha job?

If DeMatha's athletic admin were smart, they would target Garrett Ince from SJC as a top potential candidate.

Has the sun set on PVI? Very weak finish to end the year. And no JV team. What’s going on out there?

That's precisely the problem. The new campus is so far away it will limit the depth. Good school but will have a real challenge attracting families to head that way when there are so many more choices closer to the beltway.

PVI was 98% Loudoun players the last two seasons and did fine. New coach and recruiting will help build the team.

Look at where the players are headed to college from each of those rosters and there's a trend. What about JV? I'd also question why they will end up playing 6-7 fewer games. 1-2 came from advancing in WCAC. Another 1-2 will come from not advancing in VA this year. The school will have to be really creative to keep up. Like most schools, the administration and athletic diretcor and coach won't have the skills to come up with solutions other than to give scholarships. It won't work. You need a much larger mass than the 2 basketball players per year.

the problem with PVI is their AD, hee is the head baseball coach. The head basketball coach also is full time in the school.

PVI puts a mega emphasis into its hoops program and baseball program.

DM lost to GC and was nearly doubled up by them. So no, they do not.

That was before their coaching change. Their results afterwards show that they were a different team. Their offense was a joke with their first coach.

Doesn’t matter. You can’t ignore a result that actually happened for one you think would happen later.

The problem facing PVI is the same problem impacting DMV lacrosse overall. The number of kids who play rec lacrosse is plummeting and there aren’t enough club players to fill Varsity and JV rosters. The best club kids want to go to a very small # of top private school programs. Those schools have huge JV and Varsity rosters. The rest have no JV, little depth on Varsity and can’t compete with top programs. It’s not just PVI. SSSA, Epsicopal, Heights, and STA won’t break thru to top echelon without a dynamic coach that can recruit the small pool of top players

Neutral Observers Way Early 2025 Preseason Rankings:

1. SJC - the Cadets were young this year and played an entire season without Dunkel allowing for maturity and growth. Look for the Cadets to re-load this offseason. Speaks is one of the best coaches in the DMV.

2. Landon - despite the graduation of a strong 2024 class, the Bears have plenty of players returning in their 2025 class to defend their title. Landon had the best JV in the DMV, expect to see some 2027's emerge. As always, the Bears are extremely well-coached and it showed this Spring.

3. Bullis - the Bulldogs have a LOADED 2025 class but can they put it all together as a team? Jackson Mahar will take the Bulldogs as far as they can go. Depth is always an issue with the Bulldogs. Despite what others say here, Bellistri is an extremely good coach.

4. Gonzaga - despite the graduation losses, especially on both sides of the ball, Guy Cicotello returns as one of the top LSMs in the Nation. Eagles always have the horses to run with anyone and are well-coached.

5. Prep - the Lil Hoyas take a mega step back for their lofty standards as they have some big holes to fill on both the offense and defense.

6. Good Counsel - next year will mark Dane Smith's 3rd year at the helm. The Falcons have gradually been building led by a decent crop of players in their 2026 class. Will next year be the year the Falcons leap to the WCAC title?

7. Episcopal - the Maroon were young this year and have made positive strides since March (beating PVI last night in the VISAA proves this a team they lost to back in March). If Conklin can bring in some marquee transfers as he did in 2023, don't sleep on the Marron next Spring.

8. PVI - not the ending the Panthers wanted yesterday but PVI was very young this season under a first-year head coach. Look for them to mature and take a step forward next spring.

9. DeMatha - hire a great coach and give him the resources to succeed long-term. The Stags are always athletic!

10. St. Albans - the Bulldogs were young this year, given 3 freshmen were starting. Expect them to take a step in the right direction next Spring.

Those programs are all very different but agree that having a top coach and recruiter is the only way to build a top DMV program

Maybe people realize that high level boys lacrosse is a fun but challenging road and when you add post covid lifestyles, participation really falls off.

PVI's previous coach refused to recruit a 2027 class as a whole which is crazy and what has caused such low numbers this year.

The previous coach's departure early last summer and the resulting lack of a head coach through the entire fall also destroyed significant recruiting opportunities for a rather talented group of players in their 2025 class. Namely, the MadLax goalie, MadLax pole and MadLax LSM.

Their 2026 class is very talented and very deep and should do well in WCAC and VISSA over the next 2 years.

After that who knows what will happen at PVI.
