Episcopal 9 - PVI 8 - OT Maroon win!
Has the sun set on PVI? Very weak finish to end the year. And no JV team. What’s going on out there?
That's precisely the problem. The new campus is so far away it will limit the depth. Good school but will have a real challenge attracting families to head that way when there are so many more choices closer to the beltway.
PVI was 98% Loudoun players the last two seasons and did fine. New coach and recruiting will help build the team.
18-6 18-5 11-6 Look at where the players are headed to college from each of those rosters and there's a trend. What about JV? I'd also question why they will end up playing 6-7 fewer games. 1-2 came from advancing in WCAC. Another 1-2 will come from not advancing in VA this year. The school will have to be really creative to keep up. Like most schools, the administration and athletic diretcor and coach won't have the skills to come up with solutions other than to give scholarships. It won't work. You need a much larger mass than the 2 basketball players per year.
The problem facing PVI is the same problem impacting DMV lacrosse overall. The number of kids who play rec lacrosse is plummeting and there aren’t enough club players to fill Varsity and JV rosters. The best club kids want to go to a very small # of top private school programs. Those schools have huge JV and Varsity rosters. The rest have no JV, little depth on Varsity and can’t compete with top programs. It’s not just PVI. SSSA, Epsicopal, Heights, and STA won’t break thru to top echelon without a dynamic coach that can recruit the small pool of top players
Those programs are all very different but agree that having a top coach and recruiter is the only way to build a top DMV program
