He better not be sending troops.

Or what?

On state-controlled Russian media they are calling for all-out Russian invasion of Poland, the Baltics and essentially all of what was once under Soviet control. The millisecond Putin crosses the line we should be responding - with troops, missiles, air superiority. Unleash hell on Russia.

Better not what?

And, reportedly, they are using Biden's speech to the troops yesterday to justify that move.
Good job, Biden!

Yes. Because Putin only decided what to do based on Biden saying that. Sure. /s

Just pointing out that Biden's words are being used as Russian propaganda.

Do you have a link?

I do know other people gladly supply Russian tv with propaganda, but as of yet I hadn't heard Biden's words broadcast.

Different poster, but I do NOT want to share it. I don't want to be nuked over senior moment word salad that was clearly accidental. We are NOT sending troops to Ukraine. He misspoke. God help us

What are you talking about? He has repeatedly said and everyone in the administration has also said that we are not sending soldiers to fight the Russians in Ukraine.

But if russia intends to invade poland then they will invade poland for whatever made up reason they give. See Ukraine.

Yep, if Putin even puts a pinky toe into Poland, the Baltics or any other NATO states, the 82nd Airborne and a whole bunch of their jolly friends will be coming down Russia's chimney with a sack full of kinetic surprises. No need to apologize one bit for saying it, either.

You're joking, right?
Trump was very non-interventionalist.

And, we have Biden, calling for regime change, but not really. The WH immediately had to walk back his "gaffe."
Guess we know who is actually in charge of foreign policy in our country. It ain't Biden.

I really don't think we should be giving attention to the quirky folks who are still criticizing the President at this point. They are in a dwindling minority. The majority, in and outside of the US, see Biden as the NATO unifier he is. By using strong words, he protects the more vulnerable members of NATO who might want to speak up - it's much harder for Putin to attack the US than it is for him to attack European nations, particularly ex-USSR satellites. It's the good cop/bad cop routine, and it's well understood among NATO leaders who is playing what role and for what purpose. This is all orchestrated and planned.

Biden is proving to be a masterful negotiator on the world stage, with the backing of most of the world's free countries.

He's also an old man with a speech impediment.

And that's fine. You're allowed a few quirks when you're the leader of the free world.

My only hope is that we ( America) gets out of this without being blown up , attacked in some way or involved in another boots on the ground conflict. We don't need this.

What he said today has nothing to do with a speech impediment.
Nor did what he said yesterday to the troops

Actually you aren't because your quirks can get your country and others in major trouble. And I say this as someone who voted for Biden he needs to tighten it up.

Anonymous wrote:So, yesterday Biden actually claimed that the sanctions the US was threatening Russia with were not intended as a deterrent.

WHAT?

He is gaslighting the American people.

If they were deterrent, they would have been imposed before the invasion.

....Which many Republicans were calling for.
But, no. This administration (and many on this site) argued that until Russia actually did something, the sanctions could not be imposed.
And, the video montage above shows that this administration WAS threatening sanctions to deter Russia - completely contrary to what Biden claimed yesterday.

Maybe someone should play all those clips for Biden and see what he has to say that they never claimed sanctions were a deterrent.

They were right. Preemptive strikes is the kind of thing Putin does. They may join NATO so I have to kill them. It is also what got us into the ridiculous Iraq war. You strike only when something done is bad, never just because you think somebody is going to do something bad. It seems even Putin and George W suffer from paranoia.

This administration told us for WEEKS prior to the invasion that Russia was going to invade. Russia built up their troops over a course of several months and despite the US (and presumably other NATO nations) having the intelligence that they fully expected him to invade, the US did nothing. They didn't ramp up providing Ukraine with the arms they needed. They didn't impost any of the sanctions against Russia.

And, don't try to tell us that this administration didn't consider the threat of sanctions a deterrent. Nearly all the officials who spoke on this topic called them a deterrent... Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Kamala Harris, Jen Psaki........
Biden is trying to claim now that they were never a deterrent because this administration failed in that regard. And, we all know it.

Yes, the Biden administration told us that and they were right, but the rest of the world thought it was just saber-rattling and posturing. The US had to convince the rest of NATO.

So, what Biden said yesterday was a flat-out lie..... that the sanctions were never intended as a deterrent......

I dont think you understand what "deterrent" means. The threat of sanctions was a deterrent. Sanctions are a punishment.

Not according to Biden.
His words yesterday:

Q: "Sir, deterrence didn’t work. What makes you think Vladimir Putin will alter course based on the action you’ve taken today," Biden was asked by CBS reporter Christina Ruffini during a press conference at a NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium.

Biden: "Let’s get something straight. You remember if you covered me from the very beginning, I did not say that, in fact, the sanctions would deter him. Sanctions never deter. You keep talking about that. Sanctions never deter," Biden responded.

I don't care about your craven political gotcha games. Do YOU understand what the word deterrence means? If so, why are you playing this game? The death penalty is a deterrent. That does not mean it deters everyone from committing murder. It also doesn't mean that we should impose it before a murder happens.

The death penalty isn’t a deterrent. It’s punishment for a crime.

Threat of future death penalty being handed out could be a deterrent.

I'm PP. I'm European. I've lived in the US for years. I applaud Biden. He's a hero. He said off-the-cuff things that are sincerely felt, true, and needed to be said by him, not by European leaders terrified of provoking a Russian attack on their soil. Unlike Trump, who when he says off-the-cuff things, it's usually xenophobic.

You need to understand the international dynamic here. Eastern Europe is profoundly scarred by the memory of the USSR, and profoundly concerned over potential Russian attacks today. Putin does not respect them and will move against them. He will NOT attack the US, the cost would be too great. What Putin needed to hear was that the US is adamantly against any Russian aggression, and will honor NATO article 5. Biden was as forceful as he could get. His words are worth a thousand missiles when it comes to protecting the borders between Europe and Russia.

Biden has single-handedly unified NATO like it's never been united before. This is a historic moment, and his words will go down in history. He knows his Putin. All Europeans are very much fans of Biden.
