WHAT?

He is gaslighting the American people.

If they were deterrent, they would have been imposed before the invasion.

....Which many Republicans were calling for.
But, no. This administration (and many on this site) argued that until Russia actually did something, the sanctions could not be imposed.
And, the video montage above shows that this administration WAS threatening sanctions to deter Russia - completely contrary to what Biden claimed yesterday.

Maybe someone should play all those clips for Biden and see what he has to say that they never claimed sanctions were a deterrent.

They were right. Preemptive strikes is the kind of thing Putin does. They may join NATO so I have to kill them. It is also what got us into the ridiculous Iraq war. You strike only when something done is bad, never just because you think somebody is going to do something bad. It seems even Putin and George W suffer from paranoia.

This administration told us for WEEKS prior to the invasion that Russia was going to invade. Russia built up their troops over a course of several months and despite the US (and presumably other NATO nations) having the intelligence that they fully expected him to invade, the US did nothing. They didn't ramp up providing Ukraine with the arms they needed. They didn't impost any of the sanctions against Russia.

And, don't try to tell us that this administration didn't consider the threat of sanctions a deterrent. Nearly all the officials who spoke on this topic called them a deterrent... Antony Blinken, Jake Sullivan, Kamala Harris, Jen Psaki........
Biden is trying to claim now that they were never a deterrent because this administration failed in that regard. And, we all know it.

Yes, the Biden administration told us that and they were right, but the rest of the world thought it was just saber-rattling and posturing. The US had to convince the rest of NATO.

So, what Biden said yesterday was a flat-out lie..... that the sanctions were never intended as a deterrent......

I dont think you understand what "deterrent" means. The threat of sanctions was a deterrent. Sanctions are a punishment.

Not according to Biden.
His words yesterday:

Q: "Sir, deterrence didn’t work. What makes you think Vladimir Putin will alter course based on the action you’ve taken today," Biden was asked by CBS reporter Christina Ruffini during a press conference at a NATO summit in Brussels, Belgium.

Biden: "Let’s get something straight. You remember if you covered me from the very beginning, I did not say that, in fact, the sanctions would deter him. Sanctions never deter. You keep talking about that. Sanctions never deter," Biden responded.

Biden did not misspeak. He did not tell troops they would enter Ukraine.

But I understand that just as Democrats parsed Trump's every word, Republicans need to do the same. Fair game.

I don't care about your craven political gotcha games. Do YOU understand what the word deterrence means? If so, why are you playing this game? The death penalty is a deterrent. That does not mean it deters everyone from committing murder. It also doesn't mean that we should impose it before a murder happens.

Wow, haven't been reading this whole thing for a while. So, what do you all want? You want us to go fight in Ukraine, send our troops there? Do you want us to close the sky and shoot Russian planes? Do you really want us to go to war with Russia? You want them to retaliate, because they will.. I don't want WW3, flame away.

Stop trying to start something. No one wants to send troops, and the President has been very clear that he will not, nor will he participate in a no-fly zone. It's a non-starter, so talk about something else.

We might yet send troops. FA/FO. Up to Putin as to how stupid he wants to get.

Or what?

On state-controlled Russian media they are calling for all-out Russian invasion of Poland, the Baltics and essentially all of what was once under Soviet control. The millisecond Putin crosses the line we should be responding - with troops, missiles, air superiority. Unleash hell on Russia.

Better not what?

And, reportedly, they are using Biden's speech to the troops yesterday to justify that move.

Oh, I understand the word deterrence.
Question is..... Does Biden and his administration? Because for WEEKS - literally WEEKS - we were told repeatedly that the sanctions were for deterrence.
And, now, Biden says sanctions are never a deterrent.
I guess Joe doesn't realize we have video of his people saying that sanctions are intended as a deterrent.

Yes. Because Putin only decided what to do based on Biden saying that. Sure. /s

Just pointing out that Biden's words are being used as Russian propaganda.

Do you have a link?

I do know other people gladly supply Russian tv with propaganda, but as of yet I hadn't heard Biden's words broadcast.
