Hoax: Hate crime attackers: "This is MAGA country."

TMZ reports "Empire" actor Jussie Smollett was attacked by two men in a Subway restaurant.

Sources close to the actor told TMZ the attackers put his head in a noose and screamed "This is MAGA country."

It happened around 2 a.m. Monday. As the actor walked out of the restaurant, someone allegedly yelled, "Aren't you that f****t Empire n*****?"

The men were reportedly wearing ski masks, and attacked Smollett, breaking a rib and pouring bleach on him. The actor was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

Chicago Police Department is reportedly investigating the incident as battery, and treating it as a possible hate crime.

This is absolutely horrible - and is exactly why so many of us have the feelings we do about Trump supporters.

This was the best interview b/c of the added details. So the first attacker hits him and he fights back. In the meantime, someone is hitting him from behind. During this scuffle, which he said lasted what - 30 secs?, they manage to place a rope around his neck - something of which he's unaware. His phone drops, he added, but his manager is still listening in and hears MAGA. no word on the sandwich, which he has in his hand as he enters his apartment after the "attack"

And the fight just ends, he claims. They walk off.

not sure of when the liquid was poured on him - maybe when the rope was placed around his neck?

As their attorney, she is, of course, claiming they are innocent. However, the story is still shaky, as the items found in the apartment of these two Nigerian males seem odd, too: an Empire script, bleach, and red hats. They didn't say the were MAGA hats. And they were extras on the show.

Now, if they did conspire, it appears as though Smollett is throwing those two under the bus.

But we do know - at least for now - that Smollett was NOT being written off the show.

I just listened to his interview again. He was talking to his manager during the attack, but the phone, he said, dropped out of his pocket.

After the "tussle" just stopped, he said, they ran off. He then added, "The phone was in my pocket, but it had fallen out. It [the phone] was sitting there, and my manager was still on the phone."
