In U11/U12, the field is pretty small and there is barely any space to relieve pressure.
Many U9/U10/U11/U12 games are played on half of a full-sized turf field (you play across the length - many fulls-size turf fields fit 2 younger kids fields on it). At U9, they are swamped by the size, but by U12 you will barely have the ball for a few seconds before you come under pressure. At U13, the field size DOUBLES, and you add 4 field players from 9v9 to 11v11. This changes the way the game is played. |
| With the DeAnza team, it say that they were regularly playing a year up... come on, so you're telling me that they were not the over-developed group of athletes to begin with? There are videos of Samantha Tran literally running players over with athleticism and speed. |

I would like to see someone do this without having the benefit of being able to draw in the top talent in their area to begin with who can already compete in a higher age bracket at younger ages. Try that without a recreational pool of U7's-U8's 100-200 players deep to select from.
Pretty much every "A" team in the DC metro area has early developers who could play up an age group without missing a step. It is rarely because of ability/talent, but because they are born closer to Jan 1 or are early developers. Maybe 25% of the players on the area's "A" teams are not as physically developed but can keep up from a skill perspective. |
| U12 field is too small to play true possession style. You are always under pressure immediately. |
this is why paying attention and training to speed of play and pace are extremely valuable. |
No, the field may be too small for players without the technical ability to play possession. |
correct... technically skilled U12 teams can definitely play possession |
| not against very athletic teams that know what basic marking is and play high pressure defense. |
| you can string a few passes together but you can't play the same possession style as you can with double the field size against a physical, fast team that knows how to play. |
Yes, technically skilled players, well trained players can still beat athletic teams at U12. |
|
07s and above might want to check out DA web sites and talk to coaches about attending a training session.
Just saying. Who knows you might run into some teammates there. |
So now FCV wants the kick and run players. |
Well the more people who are interested the more choosy FCV can be. |
| you can still "beat" athletic teams and win games but it is very back-and-forth with a lot of 50/50 balls the entire game. The video that someone posted of Loudon Red and Clarksville is a great example. |
| Has anyone heard when the Loudoun ECNL ID days will be? |
