I'm sure "brains" are the only thing your son cares about in a girl. Hotness is not at all important to him. Or, so he assures you.

Actually hotness is nowhere near the top of his list. We raised him better than that. He focuses on character and brains. He is a brainiac who does not want to be with a shallow dummy! And this is clear from his dating history thus far, thankfully. Future surgeon likely to marry similar.

Sororities typically have a higher average GPA than the campus average. Nice try though.

In fashion merchandising?

Such a warped viewpoint. All sororities require members to maintain a certain GPA. The average GPAs at the sororities where my daughter is rushing are all above 3.5. The girls are all different majors, including biology, biochemistry, business, psychology, education, communications, etc.

Very few sororities have high GPAs requirements. One that does is Kappa Alpha Theta (ΚΑΘ), commonly referred to simply as Theta. They would have women who are smart, serious and has goals to make a difference.

Do they put out dance videos?

You do recognize there are women in this world who are academic achievers AND into dance?

There are also tons of women who study and do well in school AND love to let go, perform, and have fun.

Life is not necessarily either/or. It can, and often is, both/and.

So yes?

It’s a great place for active athletic young people.

Burlington, VT has a terrible homeless problem. Make sure you send mace and make sure their shots are up to date. There are tweakers, urine and feces everywhere.

You just described college admissions.

DP. But when people dump on college admissions offices, the AOs generally don’t publicly lash out and scream “how dare you criticize us? you’re all just too dumb and ugly to come here anyway!”

They leave that to the douchey parents.

It’s funny, when I think about the people with the most money and power in the world right now, they are literally the ugliest people I can possibly conjure. And not because of their ugliness in the inside. They’re just plain ugly.

Ok but they also want to be hot or be around hot people

- Bezos blew up a great marriage to go be with a big bootie Latina

- Zuckerberg’s “glow up”

I’ll give another example - don’t be surprised if Gavin newsom is the 2028 nominee

And the main reason - aesthetics

Except they are not. The total number of NE kids at all the SEC kids isn’t more than 15k and it averages about 5% of their student body.

At the same time, kids from the south make up around 15% of the student body of selective northeast schools and 20% of Chicago.

Also, applications to places like UConn, Pitt, UMass, UMD exceed most southern schools by a decent margin and have seen 35% - 50% growth over the last three years.

Does your # include kids from DC, MD, and VA?

And does your # include schools in NC and SC?

I find it really interesting that dcum tends to give certain places a pass while essentially blacklisting others…as if NC and SC (and heck let’s face it, VA schools) are somehow different/better than GA, AL, TN, etc. (wasn’t this thread about AZ?).

Anecdotally, I know tons of kids from well-educated, liberal families who opted for SEC schools. I admire kids who are confident enough to step outside the liberal bubble and experience something very new and different for college. And the Greek thing is just one option for extroverts and joiners…two qualities that don’t tend to be very common in Dcumlandia.

Anyone else think it’s weird that we are supposedly outraged by judging people by their appearance, etc. except when it’s a young girl all dolled up on a sorority rush video? Then apparently it’s game on. Not nice.

Anecdotes suck…so stop using them.

Our UMC DMV school has more kids going to the University of VT this year then all schools from SC, GA, TN, TX et al combined.

I don’t make many conclusions based on that and you shouldn’t based on your shit anecdata either.

Wow u of vt sounds awful, cold weather , low reputation high acceptance rate. Sad

Burlington is also a cool town for college.

Admittedly, UC Boulder or U Utah are probably better for skiing and it’s sunnier.

UVT has buzz with NYC privates as well this year…though it just means 3 kids may go vs 1. But that’s 200% growth.

Why is Vermont getting more buzz than Colorado-Boulder?

If you are a full pay oos kid, how does Vermont make any sense over Colorado?

She’s not hot, she’s trash. And there’s not enough money in the world to glow up Zuck, Musk, Bezos, Trump, Vance, or so many others in their orbits, into aesthetically superior people. Honestly, the harder they try, the more ridiculous they look.

But overall, attractiveness being a desireable quality is hardly a new phenomenon.

Because distance is a massive factor in college decisions. 90% of all kids from all backgrounds go to college within 500 miles of where they live.

That’s why if you moved Harvard to Birmingham then everyone and their mother in Alabama would be beating down the door to get in.

No they do not.

They vote for men that take way their rights.

+1. Dance as much as you want, but give some equal time to fighting for your rights. Your mothers and grandmothers didn't fight for these rights to have you kick them away with your cowboy boots.

Your cheap cowboy boots made in China.

Frye is sponsoring ASU Alpha Phi during rush. You may not like their boots, but they definitely aren’t cheap and more than likely made in the USA or Mexico (where there are actual cowboys).

Imagine being such a loser—regardless of age or gender—if you not only spend your time watching and judging college women having fun, you can’t wait for the “season.”

And before you yip about “well they put it out there,” OK but Linda, Ted? It’s not for you. It’s not for anyone here on DCUM. Not everything is for you.

Are Frye Boots Made In The USA Or China?

Most Frye boots are currently made in China, with the exception of a small number of models made in the USA

They don’t. You need at least a 2.5 or 2.75 to be admitted into a sorority. Plus the sorority members are not getting an engineering degree, chemical engineering or any of the hard sciences. They major in psychology or communications or business.

That’s not to say there are some schools that have sororities where the students have high GPAs and difficult majors. It’s just not Arizona.

They do have higher GPAs than the campus average. This is easy data to find. Just google a school’s name and Greek GPAs. I looked at this before my daughter rushed.

Also, her chapter requires a 3.0 just to rush. Another chapter requires a 3.3.

Wow, such a high bar.

You’re garbage.

Sorry but if these social organizations exist to sit in judgment of who is desirable to be admitted and who is not, they had best be able to handle some judgement in return. Don't dish it out if you can't take it.

Please. The anti-sorority people on this thread have been FAR harsher than those defending the organizations. I’ve been told to eat a bag of male anatomy, simply for suggesting we shouldn’t put people’s daughters down.

As for sitting in judgment… I was in a sorority. We pretty much had an open door. If you liked us, you were in. You could have found a similar sorority at your school if you bothered to open your eyes to the possibility. You miss out on a lot when you let your prejudice guide your decisions.

Wait, corporate sponsorship? That is bizarre.
