Waitlist movement

They are admitting all the same kids. Not unusual, but in a year with so much international uncertainty, why didn’t they just over admit domestic (with the exact same need profile as international) - some of this looks like poor planning to me.

I’d imagine turnover in these offices (at the top) if any of them under enroll .

My guess is that the uncertainty is what prevented them from over-admitting domestic RD. They have a lot more control admitting via the waitlist.

Waitlist also involves admitting further along in time, when changes are more known.

Lots of movement at Columbia, not much of a surprise given all that has gone on at that school.

Where did you hear that?
There is zero posted anywhere on Reddit, College Confidential, College Navigators or Tineoprep and lots of posts on Reddit of kids asking when/if the waitlist will move since there has been no report of movement (anywhere) since May 16th.

I've read on several sites that Columbia College admissions officers stated on the accepted student days that they "overshot their yield this year" because they admitted 10% more upfront and are overenrolled outright. They are also apparently going to restrict Barnard freshmen from taking Columbia classes this fall because they have too many kids?

The barnard class restriction from certain columbia classes was a policy change planned based on contractual agreements - has nothing to do with yield. I read about it a year ago. Regarding waitlists, yes i heard Columbia accepted more kids (due to yield uncertainty) and still using waitlist. (I'm an alum and follow our class news)

I personally know of 3 students who recently got off the waitlist... At least one decided to stay with the school where she put down a deposit. I don't know about Reddit or the other sites you list.

I really don't believe that you know 3 kids off at Columbia unless maybe you're posting from a NE boarding school (as I heard back in mid May that there were 3 kids taken off then from the same school). There is literally nothing online--on the four corners of the internet-- about waitlist movement over the past week+. And when Brown or Northwestern have moved (as they have) there has been stuff posted everywhere. Tons and tons of posts. The big college Instagramers are saying that Columbia has only moved a tiny trickle of spots. The internet in general is radio silence about it and super puzzled about it because everyone expected a lot of movement. There are several people reporting that college counselors have been told that Columbia really over estimated their yield, especially at the College.

My daughter’s close friend just got off the waitlist last week, so there is definite movement.

Brown seems to be pulling from the WL like crazy. I've seen at least 5 Insta posts from kids who got in.

My kid's is at a nyc private. A lot of waitlist movement among private school kids - brown, columbia, harvard, northwestern, michigan, cornell, vandy, washu, duke, etc, etc. Every day, they come home to say kid x is now going to college y. They have friends at many different schools, and i can barely keep up. I don't know if this is typical, but lots of great admission news still coming.

Moore came out Friday and today for Brown. They’ve got some sort of weird heeled problem.

Same. And I had a kid last year go through this process, and there wasn’t nearly as much WL movement.

At our private it’s: brown, northwestern, Duke, Vanderbilt, Cornell, Stanford.

Brown purposefully under admitted this year by about 150 kids with the intent to go to the waitlist.

It does't seem to be working out for them because this is never-ending.

Word is that Harvard will have a wave today.
