But admitted students have until May 1st to decide so they could get caught with admitting too many students. |
They might already have students declining which has opened up enough spots for them to feel comfortable admitting from the waitlist. |
DP. They could, though probably won't. They probably admitted too conservatively from RD and aren't seeing a high enough enrollment deposit rate compared to prior years. They will leave themselves a cushion for making more waitlist offers in May so that they can ultimately hit their class size on the nose. |
Its likely too many students had turned them down early? That would lead to an early mover here. |
DP. I tihnk it's less about seeing declines and more about tracking deposits. Depositing data is carefully tracked and compared. |

If you look at how many kids Brown admitted last year vs this year they seemed to have admitted about 100 less in 2025.
maybe this was the plan? |
This seems likely. They weren't sure how yield would go, so admitted fewer, with a plan to go to the waitlist. |
Interesting. Some schools admitted 100-200 more. If you follow those random IG college experts. |
Last year (class of 2028) Brown admitted 2521 kids between ED and RD (898 + 1623). This year (2029) they admitted 2417 kids between ED and RD (906 + 1511). So last year the admitted 104 more kids prior to even going to the waitlist. Then last year they took 118 off the waitlist. So for whatever reason they appear to have chosen to under admit this year and use the waitlist. |
Thanks to whomever found these stats. Very interesting! |
| Any other selective WL today?? |
Yep, my kid is about to give up their spot |
| Today, NYU is moving per reddit |
For whatever reason? Seems like they are trying to juke the stats -- keep acceptedance % down and yield up. |
| Does anyone know directly of a Duke WL admit? |
