And the Civil Rights Act |
Say what you want as long as it's true. |
You think people haven't said negative things about asians in this thread? |
Or not…as long as it’s pro Asian. I’ve had posts removed many times for mentioning the clear fact that Asian American communities on college campuses are not diverse at all. They’re majority East Asian and the same class level. The allusion of the Asian kids from Myanmar, Cambodia, Nepal, is a farce. |
Graduation rates are meaningless? Huh? Moving the goalposts to STEM degrees now. You must be the silly Asian troll poster from yesteryear. |
Not really. I think it’s a fact that most Americans do not want the test-based admissions system, and it will only make our inequality worse. I’m sure Asians will want that to get ahead of others, but most Americans have other priorities. |
Did you know that affirmative action is one of the permissible remedies under the Civil Rights Act? |
|
The plain language of the Fourteenth Amendment says nothing about racial discrimination or Asians. Try again. |
https://www.ed.gov/laws-and-policy/civil-rights-laws/protecting-students/race-color-or-national-origin-discrimination "Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in programs and activities operated by recipients of federal funds. It states: “No person in the United States shall, on the ground of race, color, or national origin, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” In the education arena, Title VI’s protections apply to all public elementary and secondary schools and colleges and universities—public or private—that receive federal financial assistance. Its protections extend to all aspects of these institutions’ programs and activities. When enforcing Title VI, OCR works to ensure equal access to education services and benefits and to prevent acts of retaliation against those who report Title VI violations." |
|
The Supreme Court ruled that the specific types of admissions programs at issue failed strict scrutiny and violated Title VI.
But at no point did it rule that the Civil Rights Act or the Fourteenth Amendment prohibits consideration of race in every aspect of our lives. The holding is much more narrowly-tailored than you are portraying. |
Quite the expert, arentcha? And when did class level begin to matter to y'all for diversity? Or it only matters for non-Blacks?

+1000 If you want the China/India system, go apply to schools there. But in the USA, schools value other things. Yes, you must make the basic cut, but once you do that, grades/scores don't matter. Also, top schools recognize that a kid from inner city X, with a 1480, 4.0UW, and all the APs that are offered (2) but who has leadership and drive, is likely just as talented as your 1590/4.0UW/15 AP kid, but they haven't had all the privileges in life. Who are you to say they are not as equally talented? |
At my firm this is very true. We have 1 Asian associate, 1 Indian associate, no partners, and 4 Nigerian associates and 1 Nigerian partner. Which one is making partner first. Odds say the Nigerian. |
There is no illusion that asian kids are majority from burma, cambodia nepal. Pretty much everyone understands that the asians getting discriminated against are the confucian countries (these are the countries where you study hard because that's what you've been doing for thousands of years) china, taiwan, japan, korea, vietnam, and the brain drain countries (these are your smart asians that got cherry picked to come here with a job in hand) india, phillipines. |
