NYT and WaPo report Biden is close to stepping down

Anonymous
My question is if Biden defies the odds and stays in, which feels impossible now, are his colleagues who have called for him to leave the race, or gently urged him to reconsider, or whatever, going to speak for him at the DNC? Will they stand up and say he's the best man for the job? Will Obama hype him up?

If Biden is losing to Trump in the polls, then does it matter that another Dem is losing to Trump in the polls? Having him stay in will not help Dems. So he needs to do the right thing - and withdraw.

NP here: yes, it absolutely matters. No Dem - including Biden - is outperforming Trump beyond the surveys' margin of error. And Biden is still within margin of error in almost every swing state.

In other words, it's a tie right now between Trump vs. every conceivable Democrat (including the sitting POTUS Biden).

Incumbency is easily the most valuable tool in a POTUS election campaign. It's no contest. Why Democrats would give up the advantage of incumbency is beyond my comprehension. It's not 4D chess, it’s a game of blindfolded Marco Polo and the Dems are drowning as they blindly try to find a magic candidate that doesn't exist.

Honestly if President Biden did step down citing medical issues, Harris gets the incumbency advantage.

No. Harris is polling significantly better than any other candidate, and especially the incumbent. She is the only one who ties with Trump. All the others lose. To stick with Biden would be ensure a GOP victory up and down the ballot.

I don't know why you can't acknowledge this, but thankfully more and more people are coming around to changing the top of the ticket.

There are reports that the big donors pressuring the House and Senate Ds don’t want Harris either, which means clusterf^ck.

Oh, it's going to be a clusterf*ck no matter what Democrats decide. We are in uncharted waters. And there is not a single solution that doesn't result in a massive Trump victory.

All of this was predictable. A majority of Democrats have never wanted Biden to run for a second term. And now these same elites that gave us Biden are going to unilaterally decide the nomination for who knows who with no input whatsoever from actual voters? Yeah, that's going to work out well.

Yes, whoever is the candidate has the full support of the party. Even Nikki Haley is supporting Trump.

But it won't be Biden.

Not choosing Harris and Dems Lose Black votes and a lot of the women's vote. This would be galactically s stupid decision.

I don't know the answer to this - could she access the funds if she's in the VP slot and someone else is the presidential candidate.

I don't want this to be true, but Harris seems like an enormous risk.

This would be extraordinarily selfless for a politician (and skyrocket my respect for her), but could she access them to do campaigning for a different politician? Like she directs the use, but all the ads say vote for someone else?

It looks like Kelly, Whitmer, Shapiro and Moore are outpacing Biden in swing states #itstimetogojoe https://www.politico.com/newsletters/playbook/2024/07/17/new-polling-bolsters-dump-biden-push-00168943

Fair point about Haley and others, but this feels different because these democrats otherwise like Biden and would have supported him. They're not political rivals, rather they have been suggesting he's just not capable at this point. It feels harder to come back from.

Thank you for mansplaining that. However, a woman or Black voter would tell you that we are pragmatic and are quite able to vote for people who are not women or Black.

Carry on.

I don’t believe anyone spewing the crap that Biden was pushed aside for Hillary. He didn’t want to run because Beau had just died.

Exactly.

Do you really think she can win?

Yes, and fairly easily.
