Trump is blocking a border deal in the Senate

Well they haven’t released the text yet, despite it being apparently done. So all we hear are leaks, and the leaks that have come out are not promising.

There is FINALLY acknowledgment by the left and public pressure on them to crack down on immigration. I’d rather not see a half-assed bill that hides the problem but doesn’t fix it.

If the text comes out and it’s actually good and much closer to HR 2 than what the leaks have lead us to believe, I’d happily admit I’m wrong and start complaining about the house and Trump if they try to kill it.

But I’m not holding my breath.

This is where I am. The details I have heard are not good.... if they are accurate.
And, if they are accurate, Republicans don't need Trump to tell them that the deal is not good.

So it needs to match your ideals or it doesn’t count. Nice trick.

We have a split government. When that happens, both sides need to give and take. To a person, the GOP negotiating this deal have said it is a good deal, that they are getting 80% of what they asked for and it should get passed and signed into law. Maybe of the GOP had passed a bill when it controlled the House, Senate and White House, there would be a different narrative, but that isn't where we are now. Take the win on both sides and move on to the next issue.

But they won’t, thus proving that it’s all about the GOP keeping all the power.

Johnson says it’s “absurd” to think he’ll block anything for Trump. Of course in my experience when slippery people like him say “it’s absurd,” what they mean is, “of course I’m doing that.”

It's already been a very busy legislative session in West Virginia, and it's barely February! Of course, things have to move quickly, as West Virginia has a very short legislative session – only 60 days. The state currently has the most active E-Verify bill effort happening.

Right out of the gate, both the House of Delegates and the Senate had bills introduced to require all employers to use E-Verify for new hires: HB 4759 (Del. Chris Phillips) and SB 431 (Sen. Jack Woodrum). House Bill 4759 immediately started moving, and we were there to testify as it was considered and voted on by the House Government Organization Committee. Having passed there, it moved over to the House Judiciary Committee, where the committee introduced a substitute version that only applies to employers of 15 or more employees. After passing the House Judiciary Committee, HB 4759 moved to the House floor, where it ultimately passed by a vote of 82-18.

Note: the state Senate passed a mandatory E-Verify for ALL employers bill unanimously in 2023 that never made it into law. But now that an E-Verify bill has passed the House, a number of business groups like the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the West Virginia Hospitality and Travel Association, the West Virginia Associated Builders and Contractors, and the West Virginia Coal Association have come out to publicly oppose E-Verify.

This is what will help US workers!!! Every democrat should be 100% behind this.

The give is the billions in even more aid to Ukraine. Something many GOP did not want to do.

No, if it doesn’t actually fix anything it doesn’t count.

The side that cares least has the most power. If the GOP refuses to compromise on the issue, we'll know which side that is.

Of course they want that the big money behind the GOP doesn't. What is at all surprising about this? GOP big business loves to exploit immigrant labor. And it needs to be all businesses - otherwise, you'll get whole industries of general contractors and fast food establishments that are excluded.

Oh for god's sake learn civics.

Biden does not set this Congress does.

Who owns the House Republicans. Who keeps voting no for any border Security Republicans.

Who had a trifecta Republicans, Don had the House and the Senate and yet they did nothing while Trump was in office as a matter of fact they voted no then too. Let us not forget Biden's admin has deported way more than Trump's ever did. Please look this up these numbers are not hard to find.

This is all BS fodder for the grift and Republicans uneducated about how our government works will keep giving the lying sacks of crap UnAmerican to the core monies. No those monies will not go to them fixing the border it never has before and never will. It will go to Trump's legal bills and all other Repubilcians to continue to fly private jets, etc.

Biden doesn’t set what?

Yes, I am well aware there are Republicans that love immigration, enough to block the reform Trump wanted. Holdovers from the pre-Trump GOP. Less and less of them every year thankfully.

And yes, more deportations because there’s been like 4 times as many migrants. Most of whom deported under title 42 which the Biden administration tried to end in early 2022 and was forced to allow to continue by a Judge after GOP governors sued.
