Yes! All the harpies giving 30%, please do, you can supplement the rest of us. Plus Uber and grocery delivery pay extra when there’s no tip so the driver will take your order. All good! |
Those working in the kitchen and counter are paid an hourly wage of at least minimum wage which is getting close to $15/hr. Waiters on the floor still get $2(/hr so yes. I tip them. The rest of them. No. There is no reason to tip. If they don't like this. Get a better education to make a better salary |
I wonder what the tipping rate on takeout orders is? I’m guessing it’s similar, maybe 15-20% of takeout orders are tipped regardless of this forum which seems to be very pro tipping anyone for anything. I tip Uber, I don’t tip on takeout. I worked for for 5 years in a diner, 20 years ago, I would say back then less than 5% of takeout orders at the diner included a tip…maybe even less than 2% it was rare. |
| I’m done with Starbucks after they have the new tip device and awkwardly shove it in your face for drive thru. So over it. |
Go and enter zero tip into their device. Then shove it right back. Word will get back. |
Tacky, stingy, mean |

Terrible. She should take to Yelp, Google, etc. and start leaving one bad review a day. Not that difficult. Talk badly at parties about the restaurant "I saw a mouse", "Dead cockroach in my order", etc. at parties.. That should teach them. Also, aren't there any other restaurants in town? I never "patronize" any one restaurant. Teaches you the value (or lack thereof) of loyalty! |

$3 tip on a $35 order? The bartender did her a favor turning her away. Heaven knows what the kitchen staff was doing to her order. |
I tip a tiny bit on takeout; but not like I would if I sat down. I was a server in many places and we never handled takeout. The cooks and managers did and they got paid a decent hourly wage, just as much as anyone working anywhere else. In fact most of them were the owner or owner,s family. If you tip them you might as well tip every single person from the grocery store cashier to the 7-11 clerk. It’s an absurd custom to begin with and really needs to stop. People need to charge and pay the correct amount and not add this ridiculous social tax. I suspect that the ever present tip line on the register paper is the work of credit card processors; who collect a percentage of that tip. |
I usually, depending on the restaurant, don't on carryout but this woman cannot afford it if she's worried about being overdrawn. |
NO to for grocery delivery-- yikes |
No *tip*, yikes. That person has done all of your shopping, hopefully picking quality items, then drives them to your house, and avoids traffic/ ticket while running it up to you door. All of that and you can't even throw in a couple extra bucks (at least)? Cold |

I started using grocery delivery about five years ago and have always been conflicted about the proper tip amount.
I usually order about $250 worth of groceries at a time and I normally tip about $10-15 if the service is competent (person is polite and delivers the food up one flight of stairs to my apartment). I will tip more if I order significantly more food. I tip in cash, as I am always suspicious that the "tip" amount put in the online ordering system might not make it to the actual person who delivers my food. Is this a normal and/or appropriate amount? I have no idea. It would be low by restaurant standards, but, if the driver is able to make two deliveries per hour, $20-30/hour seems like a substantial amount to be making in tips, assuming that others tip the same or similar amounts. I would feel uncomfortable not tipping, though, since the practice is common for restaurant food delivery (a similar service). |
Someone will be along shortly to yell at you for not tipping $50.
