Talk to any fcps teacher and ask them about the power of the “union” - there is no such power. Admin abuses teachers and the only recourse is to find another job. |
I'm an educated white woman who voted for Biden and thinks the CRT backlash is BS. I voted for Youngkin because he isn't Trump and he isn't a member of the party that shut schools down for a year in NoVa. It's not that complicated. Take away first grade for my kid and you've lost my vote. |
Whatever floats your boat, but did it ever occur to you that the poor planning by FCPS when it came to reopening schools or paying attention to facilities might have something to do with a School Board that's focused on their anti-racist equity initiatives, whether it's hiring a new Chief Equity Officer, devoting hundreds of hours to changing TJ admissions, and creating a new "Equity Dashboard" when they could have been laser-focused on operations? |
Our SB listens to them. That's enough power to prove me correct. You've just confirmed it. They are not out to make things better for teachers. Did you read what I wrote earlier--i.e. they are only out for the union itself. Not the teachers. Not the students. |
+10000000 You nailed it. Liberal who voted Republican in this election. |
Troll |
Yeah, I find people here beating up teachers pretty scummy. As soon as they say “unions are the problem,” I know they are dumb or misinformed or both. |
I am the PP who noted that it’s not cool to speak for an entire ethnic group, and that folks are idiots if they think unions are the problem with FCPS. I am not sure how those comments prompted long diatribes on why Republicans are better than Democrats or why people voted one way or another. Stop tying these issues to the parties. Both parties SUCK, okay? The less SB members play party politics, the better off we will be. |
Uh huh. Please. |
Calling names always works when you have no counterpoint facts. |
Anyone who equates the teachers' unions with teachers does not understand. Once again: it's not the teachers that are the problem, it is the teachers' unions. You don't understand the difference? Look at Randi Weingarten. |
DP - yes, that's why this educated white woman Biden voter voted for Youngkin. |
Indian parent here. While I think Biden is a clown, I think Trump is a terrorist and therefore voted for Biden in the presidential elections. Until Trump disappears from politics, I will continue to vote Democrat at the national and State levels and voted for McAuliff (sp?). I supported school closure during the pandemic given the unknowns at that time and I thought the teachers overall did a great job in dealing with the new paradigm. Much like everyone else's kids, mine lost out on a year too. The loss of learning is real but I'm sure they will make up over time. However, the school board is another story altogether. Their nonsense last year, the focus on crap that does not add value to my children's education, the TJ fiasco, and most of all the open racism from the left against Asians and Indians is real. I will do everything in my power to get those fuc*ers off the SB at the next election and am weighing my allegiances at the national/state levels as well. P.S. I know India is in Asia so pls. don't waste time point that out. |
These haven't been easy choices. I voted for Youngkin because I know first-hand how unprincipled Terry McAuliffe is (he really is the ultimate political hack), but otherwise split my ticket and voted Democratic for the other offices (the only D who was elected was my local House of Delegates member, and incumbent). I liked Herring and thought he did a good job. But at this point the School Board is the next big election affecting education coming up, and I couldn't agree more with you that unseating these people is key. They may not be awful in the same way, but they all need to go, with the possible exception of Megan McLaughlin. |
Exactly this stuff. It's all corporate BS nonsense. The millions of $$ they spend on this stuff as well as non-teaching admins and outside consulting firms, is incredibly outrageous. FCPS cares more about this stuff than they do about teachers, and teaching your kids. And none of this will change until people can find and elect school board leaders who actually care about education, and who will spend money on real opportunities and after school programs for low income families to help raise them up instead of lowering the bar for everyone. |
