Western High School Boundary Map options (A/B/C/D)

I like option two, but would like it better if Carson mirrored the HS map.

You're right, but Oak Hill and Crossfield shouldn't be swapped. Oak Hill doesn't want to move to Carson. Keep them where they are. Nobody at Crossfield was even tracking that the RIO mommies advocated to switch us to Franklin. Everyone I've texted with this afternoon is LIVID.

If we truly cared about objective long-term decisionmaking and creating community continuity/identity, we'd do something closer to Scenario 3 that drastically cuts down on split-feeders and redraws a bunch of legacy boundaries that never really made sense. (I'm sorry, but having kids from the Crossfield area drive through the Franklin boundaries to go to Carson has boggled the mind for decades.) But I expect we'll wind up with something closer to Scenario 2, which creates the least short-term disruption, therefore pissing off the least number of people and creating the fewest political headaches — even as it creates even more split-feeders and nonsensical boundary contortions in the long term.

But I'm sure many people will yell at me and tell me I'm wrong because there's literally no way to make everybody happy in this process. Someone is going to wind up mad regardless of what happens.

A good chunk Oak Hill already goes to Carson because of AAP and the Emerald Chase neighborhood. I'm not sure who you are talking to who is saying they don't want to be moved for Carson except maybe the portion that can walk to Franklin. Oak Hill should move to Carson and Skyview.

Franklin Farm wants to stay at Franklin.

That's literally just one part of one neighborhood. The rest of us live closer to Carson and it's easier for us to get to.

Much of Bull Run is just as close to Westfield as Centreville. Look at a map.

None of Lee's Corner is just as close to Westfield as they are to Chantilly.

For example, most of Lee's Corner is closer to Chantilly than Poplar Tree students.

Look at a map.

Not true. It takes several minutes longer for Lees Corner bus riders to get to Chantilly than Poplar tree bus riders to get to Chantilly due to traffic signals and patterns crossing 50.

They really should've name the high school to Oak Hill as it was bought for Oak Hill.

Now, just imagine how long it will take them to get to Westfield. One traffic signal to Chantilly. Maybe ten or so to Westfield? Poplar Tree has multiple traffic lights down Stringfellow.

Someone is getting moved to Westfield. Option 1 without Lee’s Corner isn’t happening. Westfield would be under 2,000 students.

All of these are terrible, but #1 seems best of the bunch to me.

I’m an Oak hill parent who wouldn’t mind staying at Franklin, besides the issue of it being a 4 way feeder.

I feel like on the northern end we’re closer to Carson, but on the southern end Franklin and it’s confusing.

But I feel you with the lividity as Crossfield should stay at Carson.

What I’m more upset is that some streets in Franklin farm were removed from Oak Hill, moved to Lees Corner, and either kept at Chantilly or moved to Westfield, which was ridiculous.

And the way that map looked reminded me of a protruded bowel.

Hahaha you got punked by the RIO people. They have been pushing for this.

So if we have a Crossfield kid at Carson in 7th grade now, will they have to go to a different school for 8th grade?

Good question. I assume this will be the following year. But, with this leadership, who knows.

Under no scenario would I have imagined moving Crossfield from Carson to Franklin. It is so much less convenient. Even in scenario 1, where they go to Skyview, they have them at Franklin instead of Carson, which is nonsensical, and eliminates one of the benefits of going to Skyview, which would have been that they would be moving with a cohort of friends from middle school.

So, staying at Oakton is convenient? Not a good argument.

No it's not. Staying at Oakton doesn't make sense either.

+1
Leave lees corner at Chantilly. Take area near 28 from Chantilly to Westfield and portion of Bull Run near Virginia Run. Proximity counts. Bull Run has big area and neighborhoods are separate from 9ne another.

Except #1 with changes to Lees Corner isn't an option. The option for #1 is move Crossfield but screw Lees Corner walkers. I don't think we're getting updated scenarios? Are we? Am I wrong on that?
