Johnny Depp trial in Fairfax County

The lesson here is to not take out op-eds in newspapers talking about how you were abused when you gave as good as you got.

I agree. Painting herself as the helpless victim and him as the sole perpetrator of abuse was a bad idea.

What stood out for me is Gabby Douglas liking JD's post. She was part of the Me too wave against Larry Nassar. As a true victim of abuse, maybe she doesn't see the verdict as setting the clock back for women and doesn't want AH as their spokesperson?

Why does it have to be all or nothing? Why does Amber heard have to be a "spokesperson" for all domestic abuse victims? I don't understand some of you who think it has to be all or nothing. There WAS abuse. Clearly. It may not have been cut and dry man abuses the woman, but he did threaten her, he did get into physical altercations with her (and yes, so did she against him). Why are you in so much denial? She didn't make it ALL up, you psycho.

Calling someone you disagree with a psycho doesn't really help your case. lol. Her allegations may very well have some truth but she was caught lying under oath many times. That fact alone should disqualify her from being a representative for any cause.

I disagree. And what cause? Loreal? Speaking out against powerful famous men who are dysfunctional and vengeful?

Plenty of abuse victims have decided they are subject matter experts in how someone can present as an abuse victim and therefore disregard any experience that isn't their own. That list of celebrities man, there are some BIG disappointments in there for me.

Yes and there are also plenty of people who have insisted on believing AH because no women could possibly lie about being victim of abuse

I believe her because of the texts, the 7 medical professionals who were not allowed to testify that they saw injuries she reported, the video of him acting insane, the multiple people who did testify to seeing her injuries and his legal campaign against her.

Yes!!! Thank you!!!! How can anyone ignore his texts and his groveling drivel apologies about his “Monster” alias!??? Are people categorically ignoring that because there’s not enough room in their brain for two villains, or anything that paints JD in a real-life asshole light?

Please think critically about what, if anything, these things established?[/

What do you think it established?

It's more about what they DIDN'T establish.

The ACLU gets a black eye here, too. If your lawyers are ghost writing an op-Ed that results in a multi-million dollar judgment, that is less than ideal legal work.

I am really appalled at the number of people who are ready to throw the book at JD over a proven liar’s accusations when the only evidence is a single facial bruise that literally could have come from anything. The moral of the story here is that if you are going to publicly accuse someone of something you have to have hard evidence of the accusation. I thought this was already a widely accepted fact.

Because she made herself the spokesperson for domestic violence victims. That was the entire point of the OpEd. She painted it as one-sided abuse, with herself as the sole victim. In "traditional" DV, one person has power and control over another and uses that power and control to abuse/control the victim. That's not what seems to have happened here. You have two toxic people being violent and threatening each other. That's not "domestic violence." That's an effed up relationship that needed to end. But DV, by definition, is one sided. And she planted herself on the victim side very publicly and he showed....not so fast.

Abuse victims? Speaking out against powerful men who are dysfunctional and vengeful is a fine and dandy cause. The problem is her credibility has been shot for lying on the stand. I don't think any cause would want a liar as their representative.

What about all of *his* lies, which you and many others seem to conveniently overlook? Your double standard is ridiculous.

Do you not agree that the jurors were free to disbelieve AH after her credibility was impeached multiple times? Or do you think all of the jurors are biased, misogynistic Depp fans who are unable to recognize domestic violence or understand the law?

I disagree with how the jury evaluated the evidence. I also think there was a lot of evidence exclude (some on questionable grounds) that might had changed the outcome. There is a reason the UK court found that Depp abused Heard on multiple occasions.

That's not what the UK magistrate found.

+1. She made the actual verdict about her supposed victimhood, claiming that the decision by the jury is essentially a slap in the face to all victims of DV.

yes, bad luck for Amber Heard that the servers for WaPo are located in NoVa. What states do you think she would have won in?

DP. In California the lawsuit likely would have been thrown out on an early motion to dismiss because California has a strong anti-SLAPP statute. Virginia’s is a joke and can only be asserted as a defense, not as ground for dismissal, which is why JD filed suit here. His legal team knew it would never survive in California.

Actually VA is a tough state for plaintiffs California would have dismissed for lack of jurisdiction. VA had jurisdiction because of the WAPO angle.

On what grounds would it have been dismissed in California? They both lived in California when it was filed and many of the underlying events occurred in California. Hard to see how a California court couldn’t have exercised jurisdiction.

Jason Momoa liked both Johnny and Amber's post. He remains neutral.

Laughing at Naomi Campbell— didn’t she throw a cell phone at someone? She was entangled in some type of abuse case.
Other than Aniston and Halle Berry, the list is a bunch of B listers or those I’m not familiar with. Jason Mamoa is neutral since he also liked Heard post verdict post. In other news, Kevin Spacey charged with 4 counts of sexual assault (men)

You should relook at that list. They are not all B-listers. I do not know how old you are, but it is obvious you do not know the younger and up and coming players in the industry.
