Overlee Crash & Burn

Was this someone filming behind the start? It’s a safe sport issue:

https://www.usaswimming.org/docs/default-source/safe-sportdocuments/club-toolkit/2.-safe-sport-and-parents/lsc-sanctioned-meet-360.pdf

It has been discussed in this forum in the past:

CB parents said “show us in the rule book where it says we can’t be here”

But WHY were they standing there in the first place? There is no seating there. It in inside their gate.

Because it's Chesterbrook. There is nothing else to say.

It is actually obnoxious.

Purely for drama. They knew they were going to be told to move and were prepared with screenshots of something they thought backed them up.

And to the posters here commenting that there was extraneous drama, get a life!!! The kids had fun, and frankly so did the parents.

It was a great competitive meet! Awesome swims on both sides.

These people commenting are clearly not on either team! If they were, they would have no beef to write about because there wasn’t any! The DQ delayed the meet for the normal time one does, but was discussed primarily after the meet. There was no delay due to behavior, it was a very civil meet and congrats to T for their win!

This is not accurate, there were delays for behavior. Not an hours worth but plenty of extra time kids had to stand at the start in the sun for longer than they should have because of behavior. Let’s not rewrite history here.

But it was kids from both teams standing in the sun. There was no advantage given to either squad with the minor delays.

As a side note, the officiating staff did an amazing job throughout the meet. They were on top of it, looked like they were regularly talking to the reps, and seemed to have things under control.

Was it a competitive match? Yes, absolutely. And at the highest levels of competition, in any sport, comes some extra drama sometimes. The meet was run very well and the times were incredible. Just look up the results and see how close some of the races were! It could have gone either way in some of the events.

I wasn't at the meet and am not affiliated with either club (D1 though, so we know these teams and have had meets against them), but I don't see any need for a swim meet to include "extra drama" or "regularly talking to reps" to keep things "under control." It doesn't matter if it's a high level of competition, these things don't happen if people are following the rules, including the ones of civil behavior and good sportsmanship.

I think the talking centered around how CB parents were not listening, were crowding the deck, people from CB were not staying in the team area, their coach was jumping around, doing push ups, and outside of the CB zone. He was right behind the ref and starter and he threw items in the air or on the ground a few times, in both celebration and irritation.

CB made loud noise throughout the announcers speech at the beginning. They didn't stop screaming until after the national anthem started rather than before. As a spectator overall it was pretty disrespectful behavior from where I was sitting. As a result of this behavior, the officials had to step in to have discussions with the reps to try and tone it down, time and time again. I don't know what was said in the "deck meetings", but there were discussions that I have never seen at other meets.

The official crew was amazing as the PP mentioned. They kept their cool despite the antics happening all around them. Not everyone would have been able to do that.

The CB coach is fairly out of control. No wonder the ram behavior is progressively getting worse. I don’t like T but at least he isn’t acting a fool during meets.

Dear goodness, we need to re-title this thread. So unfair to the awesome coaches and decent people at Overlee (and to the OVL swimmers).

Also, not looking forward to Divisionals at CB this Saturday. Overlee and DR were such welcoming hosts the past few times the division got together.

I was at the meet and agree there were some aggravating moments and definitely concur the officials were fantastic. But let's let it go already. Nothing is being solved through anonymous complaints about behavior, especially the personal attacks on specific individuals. Let the reps handle any actual issues and as parents we can do our best to try to behave and encourage those around us to do so.

Thanks to CB for hosting divisionals this weekend and I look forward to the warm welcome they will extend to all participants as they work to demonstrate good sportsmanship and restore some of their reputation.

Is it too early for next season predictions?

I think we can all agree Tuckahoe could do a better job of make space for the visiting team parents. They stick you behind the start/finish end, and don't spin the time boards, so if you stay where they want you to, you can't see much of the racing or times.

Not sure what the big deal is. We just sat in the chairs with all the other parents. No problems seeing the timer boards and they were very warm and welcoming. Can't wait to swim there again next year!

Tuckahoe added a bleacher on the CB side to be accommodating.

Yeah, but could you see anything from the bleacher and how many people can actually sit on it.

Very few pools are set up for optimal spectator viewing of a swim meet.

I truly have no skin in a game as my kids don’t swim for either team, but I can’t resist just asking you to please shut up! You have nothing better to do but complain?
