post here. Local to Valor--Burke, Herndon, South County, Vienna, Fc Dulles, PAC, FPYC, Villareal rarely have complaints posted. People seemed happy with GFR aside from their recent drama.

longtime lurker, NP here not from NoVA. All these little programs don't pretend like they're some soccer juggernaut. They just provide travel soccer for communities.

I think Valor gets so much mockery and hate because it's a poser hawking BS crap product to families and players. CYA and SYA families rightfully believe they are big enough and good enough to deserve the bare minimum of what passes for professionalism in travel soccer management. Valor (and its marketing hype man here on DCUM) front like they're Loudoun, Bethesda or some giant club, but yes, behind the facade of Instagram and Fathers Day Fiesta tchotchkes it's just a total joke.

+1

They seem to put more into social media and marketing more than hiring and retaining quality coaches. It’s like they are out there to see who they can sucker into paying their high fees while laughing behind the families’ backs that their kids are actually terrible at soccer.

Many of those clubs seem to do more with less. They don’t come off quite as braggy and are not trying to extract money from families at every turn.

Does anyone know who is coaching the boys U11 second team? All they said at tryouts was they were taking their time to get the right candidates (eye roll).

Shhhh. I feel like BAC is a hidden gem and don't want it ruined.

The fact that this "mega" club formed so recently has already retracted so much in terms of players is amazing. They really thought they were going to be Loudoun, but instead it's just CYA with Paul Ellis. Or SYA with Dylan, whichever you prefer...

Any updates on 2nd-5th team coaches for aby age group?

I used to think this thread was completely absurd, until Valor decided to play Clue during tryouts. Completely ridiculous.

Is the concern that there are not any coaches hired or is that the names aren't listed? We are at a different club and this is our 6th year of travel soccer. We have had coaches named every year before tryouts but only twice were the coaches familiar to the parents. 3 of the coaches were decent the other 2 not so much. Regardless of who the coach is you'll probably have 50 percent happiness rate. Not having a coach hired at all until Sept is different which i agree is no good.

They are NOT HIRED.
Telling the parents at tryouts that they are still looking for coaches.

Your not on that team. Why do you care?

Valor does five tournaments a year. They completed their five.

The fees cover five tournaments per year
so that was probably their last one. A lot of coaches like to get the tournaments done before their teams fall apart after tryouts.

If you’re a parent of a player, you’re eligible.

Joke. Couldn’t resist

It’s simple. For me it’s the close drive, nice fields, chance for my kid to make friends and play/practice soccer 3-4 times a week. Soccer is fun and I can afford it. Anything else you want to know?

Funny, I don't remember posting this but that's exactly it for us too. The price includes tournament fees and winter practices/futsal. Also, since it is the local club for where I live I've known some parents for years (multiple kids in soccer). I've always had families I trust who live near me that my kids can carpool with. That really cuts down on the time commitment for us as parents, which to be honest is the hardest part of travel soccer.

I think for most people its mediocre and overpriced but convenient until they run into a bad coach situation.

Yup…convenience over development. Most folks should ask themselves, over 3-4 years of committing there resources, is your team moving up in the divisions or are they simply changing the name of the team colors? Same kids and players? Just saying?
