PFIZER WILL ALLOW ITS COVID PILL TO BE MADE AND SOLD CHEAPLY IN POOR COUNTRIES

Pfizer announced a deal on Tuesday to allow its promising Covid-19 treatment to be made and sold inexpensively in 95 poorer nations that are home to more than half of the world’s population.

The agreement follows a similar arrangement negotiated by Merck last month, and together the deals have the potential to vastly expand global production of two simple antiviral pills that could alter the course of the pandemic by preventing severe illness from the coronavirus.

“The fact that we now have two manufacturer-anywhere licenses for these two drugs is a big change, and it draws a big contrast with the restrictive licensing so far for vaccines,” said James Love, who leads Knowledge Ecology International, a nonprofit that researches access to medical products.

Under the agreement, Pfizer will grant a royalty-free license for the pill to the Medicines Patent Pool, a nonprofit backed by the United Nations, in a deal that will allow manufacturers to take out a sublicense. They will receive Pfizer’s formula for the drug, and be able to sell it for use in 95 developing countries, mostly in Africa and Asia, once regulators authorize the drug in those places. The organization reached a similar deal with Merck for its Covid antiviral pill, molnupiravir, to be made and sold inexpensively in 105 poorer countries.

According to CNN, the Pfizer booster lowers the risk of COVID infection by at least an extra 80% as compared to the first two doses.

If anyone could share a poem I'd appreciate it

The Atlantic had a great article today. It's optimistic (but not sugar coating) and informative at the same time. Get those boosters if you haven't done so already!

I can't tell, is this a joke?

Hope is a light in the darkness
But sometimes it just looks grey
Hope is a glass of water
But sometimes it’s tepid on a hot day
Hope is a vaccine, a magic shot
But sometimes some are afraid
Hope is a pill, to cure and help,
But sometimes it still has to be made
Hope is Thanksgiving together, hugs
But some of us got sick
Hope is winter holidays together
But that seems like a magic trick
Hope is always with us,
Taking one step at a time
Hope will hold us through this
And someday we’ll be fine

Why would you think it's a joke?
Covid isn't humorous (well not to me at least), and this is a thread about uplifting things. Many people are uplifted by poems...

Thanks op, let's keep the uplifting posts coming

Yep! Got the booster (3rd shot) on my birthday, best gift I could have given myself!

(If a 4th is required I will get it right away and not wait a year until my next birthday. These shots aren't ONLY for birthdays)

But will it wear off in six months?

I want to make it very clear that this booster shouldn't be only taken on birthdays. It should be taken at medically prescribed intervals regardless of when your birthday falls out. It is unwise to suggest this is a "birthday treat". We need to trust the science, rather than treating this as a yearly affair.

It appears that we'll need boosters every 6 months for the foreseeable future. Let's not get hung up on the birthday thing (once per year), though it's sweet that it worked out for you

I trust no one anymore. Remdesivir was warned as dangerous by the WHO much earlier this year and it’s STILL the only real treatment in hospitals.

By turning this into a birthday thing it just shows that getting the vaccine is all about ME ME ME (birthday present)

We need to realize that these shots are to stop the spread of disease for everyone. We all need to stop being so selfish imho
