Why is Blake Lively so overrated?

There were all these swirling allegations around him for months, and the podcast just kinda of stopped having new episodes.

Around Baldoni?

Nah. She went to the NYT. He’s going to wind up humiliating Lively and Reynolds, is my guess — and the twist is this would never have crossed Baldoni’s mind but for their attacks. Oh well!

Totally agree. This is the point his lawyer made, too. If she hadn't attacked, no one ever would have known how badly she behaved.

I don't get this though. Didn't he "attack" first? I thought the only reason she filed the complaint is because they found out he hired a PR firm over the summer to attack her in the press. I thought that's what started the whole thing.

This whole thing started because Blake wants the rights to the book so she can write and direct the sequel. Justin said no! Blake got mad. Now, they’re trying to ruin his reputation by enacting some morality clause and then taking over the rights. She wants to do what Ryan did to Dead Pool.

This is the only scenario that actually makes sense, and Lively and Reynolds squared up to the wrong one. They thought because he tries to be a feminist, they could attack and steamroll Baldoni. I’m not kidding. I have rarely seen such a self-own outside of a “disaster tourist’ story, ahem.

2025 is coming at some idiots with a quickness.

There is about 2 pages here of saving face for Bl by her team. First it was the accusations that they stood by. Then JB hit back with receipts. Now it’s, both sides were wrong and this shouldn’t be so public anymore (after that video yesterday). Let’s all be adults and take this privately now……….

JB has the right to defend himself. She and RR ruined his reputation. This was not SH.

Poor JB!

Yup. Hey kids lets all just forget about all of this unpleasantness! Who can forget who went to what paper of record with spurious claims because she’s a grotesquely entitled dim bulb? Definitely this guy, his wife, and his kids should laugh off the attempt to ruin his life. No big!

Pretty sure baldoni has filthy hands and was no shrinking violet.

Yet this will go and on because you aren’t the final arbiter. This is hardly over.

What does Liz Plank know that the rest of us don't?

She didn’t. There were all these swirling allegations around him for months, and the podcast just kinda of stopped having new episodes. She left immediately after the NYT article came out (the same time that everyone was freaking out at JB in total horror). I really don’t think there’s a smoking gun there. As a highly vocal feminist, she simply couldn’t align herself with someone who was accused (by the highly respected NYT) of mounting a smear campaign after an allegation of SH. (And her other podcast folded at the same time as well, for different reasons.)

The NYT article really lent credibility to her claims. Everyone thought he was guilty over the holidays.

But she knows them. She's had extensive conversations with them on the subject of sexual harassment and feminism. I absolutely think it's weird she very publicly quit the podcast right after the NYT piece came out. If she was shocked by the allegations because it doesn't track with what she knows about these guys, I would think she'd say that just to clear her own name even if she doesn't defend them (which could be seen as disbelieving a victim). You'd think she'd at least want to reassure people that she never witnessed or heard then do anything harassing, but she didn't. She issued a vague statement and quit. It's weird.

This. No one really knew him before, sure some did from the tv show and his podcast, but he is not well known. Blake and Ryan will be humiliated and the hit to their egos will be devastating for them.

I'm curious how people think they are going to be humiliated or destroyed or whatever.

Ryan, in particular, is going to be totally unscathed. At worst, he will be seen as sticking up for his wife. I've seen this before, actually, with an overzealous husband going after someone he thought wronged his wife -- people eat it up. It will play right into Ryan's existing public persona. I think he's in zero danger.

With Lively I'll be curious how this whole thing impacts the release of A Simple Favor 2. It doesn't have a release date yet and they claim that fact is unrelated to what's going on with Lively in the press but I doubt they are ignoring. But I think if we ultimately see Lively palling around with Anna Kendrick at the premiere of that movie, she'll probably escape pretty unimpacted. Who knows, maybe interest in this thing with Baldoni will boost interest in that movie -- It Ends With Us probably benefited from the controversy a bit. Even if Lively winds up being someone people "love to hate," it could work out for her.

I think Baldoni has way more to lose than anyone else involved here. Like you said, he was a no one before this. If I had to bet, he'll wind up defined by this controversy.

Regardless of the truth, I think he probably should have played along and gotten through it. Then he'd just be that guy who was in that one movie with Blake Lively and hey, didn't he direct it too? That would be a much better situation for him.

I agree Ryan will be unscathed. The premiere of her next movie is going straight to prime, it was always going there, had nothing to do with this mess so I doubt it’s going to be a very big premiere. I don’t think we’ll learn much from that.

I think the biggest tell is going to be other celebs coming out in support of her. If we see another flood of women sharing stories about sexual harassment on set, Blake will have won. If there are crickets, this one is clearly not one for the me too books and she might be hesitant to to have the year she had in 2024, going to chief games, public dinners with Taylor, big announcements on her products.

She will be fine, but I don’t think this is helped her in anyway and if her team has any sense they will tell her to hang back. I’d say this might hurt acting roles but I don’t really think she had a lot of those in her future and I don’t really think that’s where her focus is. This was kind of a one off.

I have no interest in asserting "poor Blake" or anything here because it's possible she is lying or exaggerating and this is all about business or face saving for her.

But I think it's bizarre to claim confidently there was no harassment when you could not possibly know that and then position Baldoni as the victim. What if you're wrong?

If his podcast host who knows him pretty well, and the actors and crew he's worked on other movies with, have all decided to take a wait and see approach, it's weird that someone who never met any of these people and wasn't present when Amy if this happened would so confident.

Even though Simple Plan 2 is going straight to streaming, they still probably have a premier planned because of the cast-- normally if you have people like Lively and Kendrick in a movie, even if it's just on Netflix or Prime or whatever, you do a premiere and maybe even a few other events so they get photographed wearing designer clothes, that gets picked up on social media and in the fashion press, and this is how you get word out about a streaming movie or series.

If they don't do any of that, it will be a sign Lively is viewed as toxic in the press.

But I think they'll do it and this will all have blown over by summer in terms of negative impact on Lively or Reynolds.

If Baldoni has more footage of Blake acting happy and flirty, it does not necessarily destroy her but erodes her credibility.

Maybe he has sone more texts about Taylor Swift?

There's a reason that Lively and Reynolds want him gagged.

It’s all branding and sponsorships with podcasters, so it doesn’t seem surprising at all to me.

Sure. I guess we will just disagree. Nothing that has been presented thus far by BL appears SH as alleged. She had the right to bring receipts also. She hasn’t, and now there is all of this hush-hush talk, let’s go behind closed doors and talk about this.

Sad.

You don't find it at all surprising that a person who worked closely with both Baldoni and Heath fir years including during the time they were working on this movie, abruptly quit and has said nothing on the subject since?

I wonder if Baldoni or Heath talked to her about Lively.
