What is the issue exactly? Do they need to sign up immediately and are dropping the ball or is it invitation only? They have to be able to do something? Can't imagine the tournaments wouldn't want the money.

Likely a few things... I used to help work on tournament registrations. Some of the top tournaments are invitation only to top clubs. Tournaments want teams and clubs that attract college recruiters. NL is definitely not that since they have never had a female player recruit (although apparently they have pulled a fast one on some new 2026 players and convinced them that they can). Some teams are sent pre-registration links to register teams before they open to everyone else. Clubs also have to pay deposits for tournaments almost a full year ahead and since NL teams are so up and down they probably don't know year to year if they are even fielding a team at that age group. They just aren't at the level that IWLCA and others are really looking for at their tournaments.

My hunch is there were 2026 girls left without a home bc that class is so deep.

NL ‘28s play the A division. NL plays Heros, Coppermine, M&D, Crush and Maryland United. NL ‘28’s played most of the teams ranked in the top 10 this year. I wish they’d play more competitive tournaments, but I do not see Stars or Pride having an advantage over NL ‘28s or vice versa. All 3 are roughly the same.

Fair enough, I was talking more about the 27's and older. I am not too familiar with the 28's

NL may be flashy because of the boys side, but it is not a good draw for the girls in the long run. The 2026s that went are in for a rude awakening.

That is upsetting as they are all great girls who were sold on the program pretty hard by NL and some parents. Fingers crossed it works out for them.

How many teams are there for 2026? Is there a 2025 and older teams?

Not playing in major tournaments is not a big deal for the 28s and younger yet. But when recruiting time hits in a few years, that is the issue.

And it is harder to crack into established teams when they are older. Especially when NL doesn't have the connection to Capital like Stars and BLC do and then there is Pride and their Capital connection on top of their current HS program.

Is their Lax IQ high? etc. It doesn't matter which club you play for as long as you can play. The advantage of playing for teams like Pride and Stars is that you play the top teams from Baltimore. These are usually beatings, but it forces the girls to work harder and adapt. The girls realize they need to get faster, better at the draw, eliminate turnovers, etc. If you're on a weaker team that is in weaker brackets, you never learn these valuable lessons.

All 3 clubs play those top teams if they play in NGLL A. Agree that all 3 are for the most part on a similar level. However in terms of Tourneys and brackets/divisions, Pride would be the top, then Stars then NL (not sure if they even went to any Summer tourneys). Pride plays in almost every top tourney and usually the top 2 brackets. Stars plays in weaker tourneys and at the top ones plays in weaker brackets. All 3 teams were not successful in NGLL this past spring.

I am sure NL is trying to make inroads on the girls side but historically they haven’t done any of the major high school or even middle school tournaments.

As for high school clubs, what I have seen is even the best girls don’t get a look unless they are on the most winning team in middle school. Maybe it will change if NL does really well in the NGLL but beware, it is hard to get a look unless you are in the pipeline (or the absolutely fastest girl at tryouts).

By this logic, CLC Blue will not be looking at Pride or Stars girls either. I think if you have the size, speed and stick skills (and a reasonable lax IQ) you have a shot. All things being equal, the known player has the advantage but the “best girls” will almost always get the spots.

I hope you are right, but the bottom half off the teams could likely have been interchangeable so the spots went to girls on better teams (and I get it, there is a track record).

Also, I think you are underestimating the amount of movement you will see between teams. Getting closer to high school, girls leave current teams for other teams. Don’t assume lineups will stay the same. Not sure if girls get poached or they initiate movement but it seems to happen a lot in middle school.

You will see some movement after 7th grade as girls jockey to get on teams that align with their prospective private schools. Lots of movement after 8th grade to make the best travel team they can as there is not a ton of movement in high school.

Has there been any movement this year for the rising 7th grader 2028s? Did any of the DMV teams get significantly better after picking up some new players?

Rosters will come out later/early fall but a lot of times, it won’t be obvious which team will be great and it won’t be apparent until girls actually start playing. Some teams that were bad in early grades end up being really good by 7/8 and vice versa.

I think most od the 2028s stayed the same. No one picked up any game changers really. Stars lost 2 of their starters to Md teams.

What teams did they go too? That's not good for the program if they lost players already a few years before Capital.

Enough of the Capital talk for kids going into 7th grade already! They’re two years out!!?
