But you understand that statistically speaking, most people who continue with their spring break plans (not to hotspot areas) will have uneventful trips and return healthy. You understand this right? |
I’ve also spoken with my pediatrician who Is encouraging us not to cancel our trips right now. She is also going on a trip to the same location and said that she feels comfortable going and just taking extra precautions like wiping down surfaces, frequent hand washing and bring a few masks in case someone starts coughing near you on the plane.
She reiterated what others have said; those at highest risk are the immunocompromised and elderly with other co-morbidities. |
Even if you aren’t at high risk, aren’t you nervous about being quarantined if the situation changes while on your trip? |
Considering spring break hasn’t started yet and the situation with coronavirus is rapidly evolving and changing (mostly for the worse) everyday and how it runs it’s course is completely unknown , you do understand that what you are saying cannot actually be predicted and had no basis is science, right? ( funny side note, auto correct changed spring break to spread break. Lol, which is what it will likely turn into) |
Just curious how you all are speaking to your doctors? Is this during an appointment? Because if I call the office all I'm going to get a is a help line nurse who isn't going to tell me anything. |
No, I'm only concerned about severe illness. Quarantine and/or mild illness do not concern me. |
I did call the nurse line, ours are helpful. I could have spoken to a doctor if I wanted (they have call in hours) but I wanted to know the general office policy on travel right now and the nurse told me. |
Quarantine would be rough if you need to miss work or are traveling with a high school student missing school |
FWIW, my Mother returned yesterday from a 5 week trip in Italy which included the Lombardy region. She was not with a tour group but traveled the country and spent most of her time in public spaces. When she arrived in the US, they did not ask where she'd been in Italy only where her flight originated and if she was bringing back more than $10k in cash. No questions about her visit, symptoms, etc. They did not address the virus at all. She contacted her doctor who said no reason to test if she isn't experiencing symptoms. She is in a self initiated quarantine but the airline, airport, customs agent, nor her doctor were concerned at all. For all the bombarding information on the news and internet, it's interesting to me that they aren't even asking more in-depth questions or screenings those who are traveling from an infected area into the U.S. For this reason, I wouldn't cancel any travel plans. |
I work in an airport. It’s not in their best interest to make a big deal of it. |
Our local children's hospital just put out an FAQ and said they are not recommending cancelling travel plans. They suggested only traveling to places that have adequate health care facilities so that in the slim possibility that health care is needed, it is available. |
I mean if they feed me and pay my salary and I am not in a shithole I am totally ok with it. |
A Colleague of mine just cancelled a visit to her family in Sicily because she was afraid she would have to wfh with her daughter also not allowed to go to school and her housemate freaking out... sad. |
If I already paid for the trip that I cannot cancel with significant penalty and to a place with no travel warning, I think I would wait and monitor the situation. Honestly, things could look a lot different in a month for travel. US has tested only a small portion of people (not testing in thousands or tens of thousands like some other countries with higher confirmed cases), and as testing increases, we might see a significant increase in confirmed cases in all over the country.
I do not think I want to get on a cruise ship right now though.. |
She also lost her airfare costs!!! |
