Her lawyers will definitely ask for this, but nobody can say whether it will be granted. It might depend on how strong her case for appeal is. It’s probably not very strong, but she has have the best attys in the biz, so maybe they can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

I’m curious: How does one find the best attorneys for a given case, federal or civil, especially if you’re not connected? You can’t always trust random referrals; some lawyers just to their buddies or don’t know.

Wasn’t her dad an Enron executive? I would guess family referrals help.

They are making an example out of her (like Martha Stewart) and it funny because you never hear of men getting outsized sentences like this.

Just tell us you're uncomfortable seeing a white woman who looks like you get a prison sentence you've deemed harsh.

+100

Exactly! This lady’s test results caused people to think they had AIDS, CANCER and other diseases. She knew the technology was faulty, yet continued to push it. People were hurt!

I read today that she once told someone that pretty people like her did not go to jail!!? 🤔

Does she not remember Paris Hilton or Martha Stewart getting locked up??

I just find it sad that her baby will have to be born in prison…..

No, she will appeal this long enough that she won’t actually go for a few years.

I agree she was a horrible person who terrorized those whistle blowers. Someone also committed suicide - probably pushed over the edge by her lies. She deserves to go to prison.

But I also agree that too many men aren’t held to the same legal standard of prison time for serious crimes. One of the few police officers to go to jail was that woman in Dallas who went to the wrong apartment. None of Epstein’s clients have been held accountable. Brock Turner and most rape/ sexual assault trials are jokes. All the campaign finance fraud in the Republican Party. Trumps’s house of cards businesses held up by tax evasion. I’m ready for equal protection under the law. Put the men in jail, too.

I think she is trying very hard to look girlish and youthful since her boyfriend is so much younger.

It ages her more- she looks 50.

The best part was her walking into court every day holding her Mommy and partner’s hands. Total fraud in every possible way. Glad jury and judge finally saw through it.

I just hope this won’t set other would be female entrepreneurs back. She is a one off sociopath

I'm in the venture world and unfortunately, yes. Her behavior had a huge impact on women entrepreneurs in the health space. I think that's why I'm so hostile, well, and disappointed in the federal agencies for not being the check they should have been (looking at you FDA).

She’s a psychopath and needs to be in prison for a long time.

As for the baby, her kids are going to be better off without a psychopath mother around for as long as possible. With all their millions the babies will still have good care.

I totally agree. I think in this case the kids are better off without her influence.

To the poster who said she didn’t steal because she used the investor’s money to try to change the world and it didn’t go in her bank account:

She’s been awaiting her sentencing at what has been described as her $135 million estate.

She stole almost a BILLION dollars through sheer lies and fraud.

WTH? Her children would be better off never knowing her.

She didn’t steal it. It didn’t go to her bank account. She used it to try to change the world. She lied, and she failed, but she didn’t steal.

She didn’t try to change the world. She defrauded everyone in to thinking she had a novel medicine way to test blood. She stole a lot from the people who trusted her.

And what a psychopath for getting pregnant after she was convicted.

This! What kind of monster produces two children just to get a lighter prison sentence. It’s so disturbing.

I don’t doubt that getting pregnant was part of her strategy, but I also think she realized that she’s in her late 30’s and was facing a fairly long prison sentence. She’ll be 50 when she’s released. This was probably her last chance to have another baby without using a surrogate.

I bet it was part of her strategy. She is a sociopath.

It seems cruel to have children when you are pending a criminal trial and might have to go to prison for a long time.

Well, yes. She is a sociopath who kept up a lie for many, many years. Her technology didn’t fail. It was all fake. Totally.

I agree that there’s a LOT of sexism going on. The boyfriend is just as guilty yet nobody talks about him, at least not to the same extent.

My H was going on last night about how she got pregnant on purpose to get sympathy in court. I asked if it was a man on trial and he had a pregnant wife, would he think the guy got someone pregnant on purpose for sympathy? He admitted no, but then said “but she’s flaunting her pregnant body in court!”

Well yea. It’s kinda hard to hide a pregnant belly. They stick out. What is she supposed to do, wear a belly binder and a tent?

People love to see a beautiful, successful woman get knocked down. Look at the Entertainment forum here, it’s full of people slamming beautiful female celebrities and celebrating when they fail. Angelina Jolie, Meghan Markle, Olivia Wilde, Hilaria Baldwin, etc.

She played the sexism card herself when anyone tried to question the validity of tge company. Then in trial she claimed she was abused. Total bs all the way. She got all the attention when she was trying to build this fraud so yes, she is getting the attention on tge way down

To those defending her saying she was trying to make the world a better place - I am not sure that is true. Her whole pitch about losing a beloved relative to disease - that's why she started this is bs. She did have a cousin or someone die, but she barely knew the person. It was just spin. I don't think she wanted to make the world a better place - she wanted to start and run a big success company. Maybe somewhere early on, she thought this would work but had to know it wouldn't fairly quickly.

As far as the everyone "fakes it til they make it" in tech. If, you are choosing health care, that's a whole different ball game. You can't try to do an end run around the FDA and mess with people's lives. She is so lucky no one died of a false negative (that we know of)
