Madoff was sentenced to 150 years.
James Paul Lewis got 30 years.
Wells Fargo had to pay 1 billion.
Not all frauds have gotten off easy.

I know there are examples of well-connected men who’ve gotten away with worse—Michael Liberty comes to mind—but that doesn’t make those ridiculously mild sentences and presidential pardons right.

Are you saying that she deserves less than 11 years for stealing people’s money and threatening anyone who might expose her?

DP but yes, I think she deserves less than that. I don’t think anyone should get more than 10 years unless we are talking about multiple premeditated murders.

If some psycho kidnapped, tortured, raped and killed your child, you would think they should get no more than 10 years in prison?

Serial pedophiles who have abused dozens of children for decades deserve less than 10 years?

A human trafficker who has enslaved dozens of people for more than a decade?

^^ yeah; rape me and you better get castrated, 10 years and maybe a hand cut off.

Will she get an appeals bond to be able to stay out while her appeal is pending? Anyone know?

She stole almost a BILLION dollars through sheer lies and fraud.

WTH? Her children would be better off never knowing her.

She didn’t steal it. It didn’t go to her bank account. She used it to try to change the world. She lied, and she failed, but she didn’t steal.

She didn’t try to change the world. She defrauded everyone in to thinking she had a novel medicine way to test blood. She stole a lot from the people who trusted her.

And what a psychopath for getting pregnant after she was convicted.

This! What kind of monster produces two children just to get a lighter prison sentence. It’s so disturbing.

I don’t doubt that getting pregnant was part of her strategy, but I also think she realized that she’s in her late 30’s and was facing a fairly long prison sentence. She’ll be 50 when she’s released. This was probably her last chance to have another baby without using a surrogate.

I bet it was part of her strategy. She is a sociopath.

I think she is trying very hard to look girlish and youthful since her boyfriend is so much younger.

It ages her more- she looks 50.

The best part was her walking into court every day holding her Mommy and partner’s hands. Total fraud in every possible way. Glad jury and judge finally saw through it.

I just hope this won’t set other would be female entrepreneurs back. She is a one off sociopath

Then start charging, convicting and sentencing the men. Doesn’t mean she gets to walk just because she’s a woman. She committed fraud with the extra special sauce of careless disregard for the health and safety of others.

Her partner, Sunny Bulwani was tried and convicted. He has not been sentenced yet.

It wasn't a startup. It was just pretend. Can any of us pretend to have a great idea and get money for it when we really know it's completely fake. Yes, people lost their investments. What do you think happened to the money?

The guy who organized the Fyre Festival went to jail. He was also full of sh/t, pretending he had this great plan. He spend time in solitary confinement, too. People who think honesty doesn't matter shouldn't be influencing our society. It does matter.

Many patients have been affected by Theranos’ lab inaccuracies. And who knows how many have died.

Eleven years is not enough!

None died. There has been a thorough investigation to pin as much harm as possible on her and her partner.

She was a scam artist. That's what her prison sentence is for, not man slaughter.

And he’s back advertising another scam. But according to PP he learned his lesson with his short sentence.

+1 That fake deep voice takes the cake. Although fake boobs and fake lips are the norm for some reason. Maybe a fake voice will be as normal as getting botox soon, who knows.

It seems cruel to have children when you are pending a criminal trial and might have to go to prison for a long time.

Even if she never went to prison but continued with Theranos do you really think she’d be raising them herself? Kids would only really know a nanny or 3 anyway

Her lawyers will definitely ask for this, but nobody can say whether it will be granted. It might depend on how strong her case for appeal is. It’s probably not very strong, but she has have the best attys in the biz, so maybe they can pull a rabbit out of a hat.

I’m curious: How does one find the best attorneys for a given case, federal or civil, especially if you’re not connected? You can’t always trust random referrals; some lawyers just to their buddies or don’t know.
