Elizabeth Holmes, CEO of Theranos, finally charged

And that’s the thing: she got a bunch of old, “serious” men to lend her their legitimacy. In return, they wanted to make a bunch of money without putting in any hard work and a chance to “mentor” Holmes. They were thinking with their d#cks and wallets.

What pisses me off is that a poor, inner city resident who sells drugs or robs a bank will get more time behind bars than Holmes. She’s a straight up thief.

Why would anyone believe that someone with two years of undergraduate classes would be qualified to do what she claimed she could do? They thought she was Zuckerberg, as if computerized medical analysis is the same as some dumb website. It simply didn't work, and they wouldn't let anyone in to verify their results. How did that not raise a thousand red flags?!

So what’s the deal

Was she a con artist from the start, or just delusional and got in over head?

What’s shady about SS?

She absolutely got in over her head. Her product worked on a very basic level for a small number of tests. I think the guy she hooked up with to be her CEO started in with the grand claims. The company was able to sign huge contracts with big names like Walgreens based on the greatly inflated claims.

My real concern: what will happen to Bad Betty's primetime love squeeze: Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani?!?

I get what you’re saying but Zuckerberg has never created anything . Facebook was never his idea

He was indicted with exactly the same charges as Holmes.

Bumping this up.

Is anyone else following this story? Her trial begins next month. Her baby was due this month. I’m watching it all closely but no one else seems to be. Let’s discuss!!

It's amazing to me that she has managed to spend three years out of jail but hopefully just like Madoff - she is sentenced.

Well we are still waiting for her to even be tried, we don’t know if she will be found guilty or sentenced.

Covid delayed her trial, and her pregnancy.

She will no doubt try to become pregnant again before going to prison (if that happens).

The book has been out for 3 years. See Bad Blood by John Carreyrou.

From fortune in 2015: Board includes Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, former Secretary of Defense Bill Perry, former Secretary of State George Shultz, former Senators Sam Nunn and Bill Frist (who, it should be noted, is a surgeon), former Navy Admiral Gary Roughead, former Marine Corps General James Mattis, and former CEOs Dick Kovacevich of Wells Fargo and Riley Bechtel of Bechtel.

Her dad was at USAID and had access to those old fogies. But a legit tech startup should have had more people from the biotech world on its board. Quite the failure of corporate governance.

yes. early on she approached some legit biotech investors and were blown off immediately. i am ready to hate on SV bros as much as the next person, however, this was not typical SV bullshit. it was all possible because of these powerful but close to demented figures. i think grandson of one of those who actually brought the company down, and his own grandfather basically disowned him. like, he literally sided with holmes, even when the fraud exposed.
