That's "my initial thought"...

I totally agree with this but am having a hard time getting worked up in the slightest about it. So POTUS's kid got into Harvard, good for her, of course she did. Just like there was never any way King Abdullah of Jordan's kids were getting rejected from Georgetown. Extremely powerful people paying full freight who also happen to be legacies, with offspring from strong private high schools? Yup. That's that. You could not pay me all the money in the mint to do Obama's job--if his kid getting a slot at Harvard is one of the perks, then have at it.

(Arguably, Crown Prince Hussein should have been let in even if he was massively academically unqualified, which he apparently isn't--what's the point of having a School of Foreign Service if you aren't going to use it to try to somewhat educate a teenager who will one day sit on the not-at-all-ceremonial throne of a key regional ally? There could hardly be a more important mission for the school)

I wouldn't be surprised if a potus kid applied to caltech and got denied I he/she wasn't a strong enough candidate. They don't mess around

The Obamas are used to this and will press on. I'm happy that she can delay the leaving home moment and enjoy the time with her family. It just kills me that people have such hatred for such a gracious and hardworking family.

Hardworking, yes. Gracious, I don't see it, they have made racial relations worse than they have ever been -- even my Latino and Asian friends talk about our "Deporter-in-Chief" in very surprising terms.

This can't be real. Yes, the Obamas, a black family made racial relations worse. Yup, worse they they have ever been. Worse than when black people were treated as property and not humans. Yup! The Obamas did that.

Yep, it can't be real that a black President with a community organizer background and an immigrant father has deported more people and broken more families than any other President in modern history....but, black or not, that's exactly what he has done, and his main legacy in the minds of millions of (perfectly legal, thank you) immigrants.

My folks weren't here 200 years ago so I can't compare then with now, but I can say that many non-black minorities see racial relations now the worse they have been in several decades, and President Obama has played a significant role in it.

Right....the POTUS who has taken shots from the Right because he actually was trying to get people here illegally a path to citizenship. You and the Cons agree that he has been bad on immigration but I am sure they would disagree with your take on it.

i.e. kids who have to be admitted based on

Ummm no not at all. Check their website, it's encouraged for any high school senior.

People are so anxious to discredit this girl.
I couldn't agree more. Fortunately, she and everyone in her family don't give a flying sh*t about DCUMers issues with her going to Harvard. Count on it that there would NOT be over 20 pages on this matter if Malia were white.

And I wish lazy people would do a little research before posting. There are numerous internet articles on the advantages of gap years and what colleges recommend and what some offer in the interim for gap students.

Welcome to Trump's America.

But then again, deferred placement is a Z-List. Developmental cases, people who have to be accepted because daddy gave money or connections.
Having the academic merit is not enough. Nobody pays Sidwell school tuition and not expect kid to be Ivy material.
At that tuition every kid is turned into ivy material. Money gets you advantage in more ways than one

The response to Malia going to Harvard isn't shocking but definitely shows the underbelly of America. There is at least 2 other girls from Sidwell (one other is also Af-Am) going to Harvard in the fall. It's not unusual for at least one or two Sidwell graduates to attend this college. Malia shouldn't be singled out and her hard work and achievements mocked.

I'm pretty sure nobody in my graduating class went to HPY. The valedictorian went to University of Miami on a full scholarship for pre-med and the salutatorian went to Duke University.

A school like Sidwell tends to admit Kindergarteners whose parents went to Harwaaard

so not surprise there. Legacy status opens doors

Apparently Malia was accepted to Harvard, Princeton, Yale and Stanford and waitlisted/rejected from none.

Surprise, surprise, surprise! And you think it's because she's setting the world on fire academically? I doubt she's in the top rung of Sidwell students. But her dad is the president.

Also she gets to be a junior White House hostess to her mother and travel on state visits with her parents. The WH has already scheduled a number of them for summer and the fall.

Why are you all so invested in this girl?

1, You're an asshole

2. You don't know her grades, GPA, ECs, and test scores so you're clearly just a hater (and an asshole).

It's entertaining watching the haters squirm (for me personally).

The low key white supremacist who make racially-tinged comments about the entire Obama family.

Ok, whoever that is. But I must admit, I know racists who are white, and some who are black. They seem to come in all hues. Why is that?
