The facts of what is happening in Ward 4 don’t lie. This wasn’t the case 20 years ago or 5 years ago. How many armed robberies will we see next week? |
Not just anti-police. She is the face of defunding the police. She wants to gut the police department. She's not shy about it. |
The beauty of democracy is that I can vote for her, and understand that this whole thing is not true, no matter how many times you say it. |
Don't worry we are nor voting for Lisa, people like me are moving out of the city. You can keep your mess. |
I'll certainly miss you my anonymous neighbor who may or may not live in DC |
If you’re still alive to do so. Living in Ward 4, we’re taking our chances every day. |
Tell me again you don't understand actual risk. You're more likely to get hurt driving around your new suburbs. Good luck! |
Are you 12 y/o? |
I’m a different poster. Still in Ward 4 but hoping we see real change soon. Dismissing 4 armed robberies on a mathematical level of “risk assessment” is beyond pathetic and shows why crime is so rampant. |
"wishes death upon stranger so they can say I told you so" is definitely the side I want to be on |
DP but even on a mathematical risk assessment I'm voting against JLG. 4 years ago the idea of a shooting in my immediate neighborhood was completely ridiculous. Now it's a twice-monthly event and my preschooler got shot at on a city bus at 3 in the afternoon, less than a quarter mile from my front door. Is Ward 4 Baghdad? No. Is it worse now than it was when George was elected. Absolutely yes. The real risk has gone up. And I don't think she's inciting crime personally or responsible for putting on a cape and stopping it all herself, but the little bit that councilpersons *can* do, she chooses not do or actively opposes. So I will vote for someone else, and hope that it doesn't just keep deteriorating and I'm not 3 years out from moving like the PP upthread. |
I'm all about dealing with the issue. I'm just not ok with hyperbole. It's ok to feel upset about crime, I do too. We just need to deal with it rationally. |
I'm curious. When you are unpacking at your new exurban paradise house and jam your thumb carrying the couch into your McMansion, are you going to blame JLG for that too? |
NP but can I ask what crime has happened in your neighborhood? Because in my neighborhood in a three week period there was an armed robbery on the corner at 5 pm, a helicopter filled police manhunt that ended with a guy handcuffed to my next door neighbor’s fence while police dogs sniffed around our garbages, and a person was car jacked and seriously injured a few blocks away. I am not prone to hyperbole but this really brings me pause. On top of the two shootings near my kid’s school that led to lockdowns last spring, the biker who was shot and killed and the people stealing frenchies. |
This. I spent almost two decades explaining how crime in Ward 4 was overblown, how it was safe to walk to the park with your family. With one very notable exception, the high profile murders involved people involved in crime already, so working families could feel safe. That is so far from being the case now, when anyone could be a target any time and it could not be more obvious that criminals operate without fear. |
