Just don't look at how rural governors schools operate. If you think TJ admission lacks merit now, what happens if FCPS decides to emulate Shenandoah Valley or SWVA?

All part of the GOP/Youngkin’s plan to destroy public schools.

They want TJ to fail.

Exactly Youngkin and the GOP want to suck the public tax money from the schools and give them to private religious schools. That's what's coming and TJ is going away.

Imagine thinking charter schools are all religious. Think before you speak.

PP didn’t say anything about charter schools. Learn how to read.

Good for Dr Reid, but did Dr Bonitatibus’ email rub anyone else the wrong way? There was no apology or acknowledgment that this was an unfortunate situation.

Another vote for Dr Bonitatibus has to go…

Weird I thought the email was great and feel Bonitatibus has done a fine job. I get that some parents are mad that they helped eliminate the cheating that had helped many game admissions but they need to find a new hobby.

National Merit semi finalists and commended are not based on SAT scores. So it doesn't matter that the colleges "SAW" the SAT scores.

They are based on PSAT scores.

So many posters on here really need to stop posting because they have no idea what they are talking about.

That’s true, but the PSAT is a watered-down version of the SAT. If you have an SAT score on file, it’s generally safe to assume that you did similarly well on the PSAT — you don’t need a “Commended” label to back that up.

The 'Commended' label makes students eligible to apply for over 800 different scholarships from corporations and universities. It means MONEY!!!

OMG, OMG, and the principal sat on the notices for a week or so! Most college apps aren't due until March.6 Not sure why this is a problem. I think these posters need to find a new hobby.

March 6? Most students know where they're going by March 6. ED applications are typically due by November 1. People are chiming in who don't know what they're talking about.

Nobody wants to hear about your ED problems. Meanwhile kids applying to college are fine.

Yes, this is all some fake outrage over nothing.

Ah. So that was the play.

Faux outrage as an excuse to kick out the principal.

I think that's the whole point of these made-up non-issues. Sure, they gave out notices a week or two after the school received them. I don't see that as a problem really but trying to paint it as one is just a way to try and create this fake outrage about the principal largely because these parents are angry they can't game admissions like they used to.

Now I get it.

Agree this is what’s going on.

The email admitted it was human error that caused it. And I defiydo not think this merits firing the principal.

Let’s say it has nothing to do with college admissions. It’s a certificate or award that the school was told to distribute immediately as it was the only way students would know- and they didn’t. College admissions, not being a merit scholar, kids finding out other ways, etc - all irrelevant. What is relevant is the school not timely informing students of something that takes minimal effort to do so.

Dear TJHSST Families,

First, I would like to draw your attention to the statement on the FCPS website regarding a delay in sharing National Merit Scholarship Corporation recognition with students designated Commended Students by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Superintendent Dr. Reid and I are aware that there will be many questions on this topic and would like to give you an opportunity to raise your concerns directly. Dr. Reid will be present at TJ on Tuesday, January 3 from 6:00-7:00 p.m. While Dr. Reid may not have answers for you on Tuesday evening, FCPS has already initiated an investigation and is committed to share any key findings with you as soon as we have them.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ann N. Bonitatibus

TJHSST Principal

There are two possible scenarios that I can think of-
1. The letters were deliberately withheld. If so, who empowered this person to make that decision when the rest of FCPS distributed them?
2. There is mismanagement and no oversight of TJ personnel. TJ knows these letters are coming. They come every year. Not 1 person didn’t notice they were passed out?

It is not the only way a student would know. They already know their PSAT score and the cutoff is public knowledge and widely distributed on the internet. It isn’t hard.

I go with option #3. It isn’t a big deal.

Or the third likely possibility that they were in the queue and got to at the earliest possible opportunity which was only a week or so after they were received.

I don't know why they'd bother since most of these people are completely unhinged. They are looking for ways to find fault even when it's not rational.
