I’m black too, and against vaccines mandates for kids, but Youngkin is basically a Donald Trump puppet and will do absolutely nothing to improve the lives of African Americans in Virginia, so it’s a no for me.

Pp here. I disagree. Trump was no saint but many blacks benefited from some of his policies. For example, he pardoned more black inmates than other presidents in recent history and he increased funding for hbcus. I wouldnt vote for a Trump-like character for president but Youngkin is running for governor. I dont want Virginia turning into New York. I want someone who respects school choice and vaccination choice. The fact is many blacks benefit from and even agree with many conservative policies. Dont get sucked into the Republicans = racist, democrats = savior mentality. Its really not all black or all white.

+ a million
Though DCUM’s resident rabid liberals would certainly have you believe that the only choice is a Democrat. Glad to see people thinking for themselves.

Do you guys work off a script? I’ve seen this exact comment copied and pasted here so many times. And the person you are responding to sounds scripted too. No one here buys it.

Because it's complete BS and the PPs know it.

He is racist like Trump. How could you vote for Glenn Trumpkin?

Trump is not a racist.

Well, if the local SB's had been more reasonable last year regarding return to school and overall regarding social justice/equity over education, it wouldn't be an issue. Their extremism is why it's a close race.

- protecting the right of EVERYBODY to vote
- keeping my children safe (meaning no guns, especially not in schools)

So, no, losers, not voting for Youngkin
-

Agree with all this.

Ah, yet your version of “THE TRUTH” to be taught is every bit as one-sided as the antiquated version from the past you seek to retire permanently. And you will only protect the rights of women and minorities if they subscribe to the right views; if they do not, you’ll repudiate them in a quick second.

You people scare me - you are like a bunch of Bolsheviks or Pol Pot followers.

You think the holocaust was a lie? You think people were not enslaved, not only in the U.S., but around the world??? You want this country which used to be so proud of its heritage as a melting pot for the world, to be lily white, white, white and boring and racist like you?

Also, please stop making up "insults" that you don't understand, I'm embarrassed for you.

DP. Wow - someone is truly unhinged. Absolutely no one is saying any of the above, but way to take the conversation into crazy land. Maybe you're unaware, but FCPS ALREADY teaches all about slavery and the Holocaust. My daughter just finished reading Elie Wiesel's "Night" for her history class. All our kids are taught about slavery, from elementary school on up. Where do you get these outright lies? And the PP absolutely right. *You* simply don't understand the meaning of his/her insult. Now that's embarrassing.

My DD is in 9th and they really don't. Other than a high level reference to them. There absolutely needs to be more discussion on ALL of the US (and world) perspectives and experiences in school. Less "George Washington cut down the cherry tree" stories. And FTR, that means more discussion putting white experiences in context too. There is a LOT left out of the historical narratives in FCPS history classes.

Well, I'm sure POC kids will enjoy getting bussed around the area when McAuliffe implements his diversity plan.

This is just completely false. Any emergency orders or mandates come from the governor. See Northam, Ralph:

Governor Northam Announces Public Health Order to Require Universal Masking in K-12 Schools
https://www.governor.virginia.gov/newsroom/all-releases/2021/august/headline-902544-en.html

Virginia Closes Schools for the Year Amid Coronavirus
The governor announced the extension to a previous two-week closure as the coronavirus spreads across the state.
https://www.usnews.com/news/health-news/articles/2020-03-23/virginia-gov-ralph-northam-closes-schools-for-the-year-amid-coronavirus

That emergency order did not last the entirety of COVID or DL. Once those were over, the SCHOOL BOARDS continued with DL.

Masking is a safety precaution. And a good one. Anyone who can't abide by that can simply keep their kids home. Your kid is back in school and learning. THe mask enables that to happen. You cannot have it both ways. LBH here, you just want to be a selfish a--hat who wants to do whatever they want. That's not how a civil society works.

You have lost your marbles if you’re not a troll. Hold the school board’s feet to the fire but don’t vote for the anti-democracy party.

Not the OP, but I'm getting real tired of the left calling anyone who disagrees with them, "trolls." Get over yourself and acknowledge that many people think Democrats are the "anti-democracy party."

Listen, you can believe what we you want. No one who votes D is seriously contemplating Youngkin unless they are incredibly uninformed. Governors are responsible for much more than schools. Virginia is a nice place to live because we have had Democrats at the helm for some time. We did pretty well with the pandemic because we have good health care, and good government compared to the hellscape of red America. And let’s get this straight. Democrats didn’t try to overthrow congress and install a dictator. You did that.

Democrats’ gross mismanagement of the public schools is a real thing, whether you want to acknowledge it or not. Plenty of people are fed up and crossing party lines, since McAuliffe treats the likes of Omeish and Frisch as heroes.

No, there are literally right-wing groups openly doing this. One infiltrated the TJ PTA and imploded it.

DP. What on earth are you babbling about? Links? The Coalition for TJ isn't "right-wing." They are fighting to keep TJ's admission standards selective. I don't even have kids at TJ, but can completely understand why the admissions standards shouldn't be watered down in the name of "diversity."

Parents Defending Education (definitely right-wing/Koch associates) had an exec member on the TJ PTA and coordinated to install a new president.

Any actual reputable links proving a Koch association? No? Then I guess you're lying. Again.

Sure.

Parents Defending Education is full of Koch associates and Trump activists. Here is the board:

Nomani was elected as secretary to the TJ PTA and helped support the election of the current president in a dramatic takeover. They did all kinds of shady stuff as part of the PTA. I’ll have to dig up those old posts too.

There’s definitely something shady about any parent defending education.

I stand with Democrats, especially childless ones, who want to dismantle and disrupt systems of hierarchy and oppression like science and technology magnet schools.

"There’s definitely something shady about any parent defending education."

Why would that be shady? Parents are supposed to advocate for this.

Having students wear masks is hygiene theater. Especially if they are vaccinated. I have not seen a study that indicates that it slows down the spread of covid. I have however, seen studies that show younger students have a harder time with learning because they can't see the teachers faces, so there is evidence of learning loss.

The people that are crossing party lines were republicans in the last presidential election. Maybe some of them are going back to voting for republicans governors. But many are not. Keep dreaming.

They aren’t really though. They just push GOP talking points/lies under the guise of “education”.

They DGAF about students, they just want your vote.

You're being dismissive about their concerns. Parents have every right to complain how things have been handled by the Democrats.
