Western High School Boundary Map options (A/B/C/D)

What makes you think Crossfield is staying at Oakton? That's not what I've heard after talking to multiple school board members. Just because a small group of Crossfield and former Crossfield parents have a Facebook page doesn't mean that's what the community wants. I have a first grader and every parent I know has written letters and been vocal about moving to Skyview. Lees Corner is practically across the street from Chantilly. It would be absurd to send them to Skyview.

They should not even be presenting an option that moves Lees Corner to Skyview. All that would demonstrate is that they are intimidated by the obnoxious Crossfield parents.

How small are you talking about?

It's fine. Either your kid goes to the school you thought they were going to go to when you bought the house or they're going to a new school that is closer to your house. Why the stress?
I feel like I'm reliving 2000 with Westfield opening and the whole 2008 fiasco.

Everything is so much more difficult than it has to be, and feels deeper because I live in West Floris.

We moved from Oakton-Westfield (2000), Westfield-South Lakes (2008) and now South Lakes-Skyview (2026).

When I bought my house, Westfield was opening, and students in the Oakton, Chantilly, and Centreville students had been moved like four times.

The fifth time was in 2008.

If Lees Corner is presented as an option, parents from that school need to be vocal in calling this out. There is no reason to put Lees Corner at Skyview other than to appease the Crossfield parents. Someone has to go to the school, and these Crossfield parents would rather pull other people’s kids from a community high school that is very close to their homes just so they can continue to send their own kids to a school that is far away.

Certain Crossfield parents are like a dog with a bone on this issue. Trust that they’ve been lobbying board members and people at Gatehouse to get what they want.

And those who want to stay zoned to Oakton have almost certainly heard the same thing from the SB and written letters…these people are all politicians. It’s important to not only show up but be vocal at these upcoming meetings.

Lees Corner will definitely be an option. They are presenting THREE options, and many of us had already seen the "Option E" and most of us heard Reid saying Oakton and SLHS may not see the changes.

Do I agree with it? Absolutely not. But we will see the Lees Corner option.

Then Reid should be called out as the incompetent sycophant that she all too regularly has become. Lees Corner should not be moved out of Chantilly in any option.

She and the school board are making the erroneous assumption that because they haven’t heard from that community they will be ok with it. The Lees Corner community will need to mobilize, and fast. Get your kids to speak at meetings if they feel so inclined. Crossfield had a big head start on mounting opposition.

Yes one of them works at Gatehouse and the PTO presidents claim to represent the school. Rest assured the school board and Gatehouse administration has been made aware that they are abusing their positions.

People should not be expected to mobilize in advance to oppose a proposal that is absurd on its face. If Lees Corner has to mobilize on short notice to oppose a ridiculous proposal to rezone them to Skyview, they should simultaneously organize recall petitions for the two School Board members who represent families zoned to Lees Corner: Seema Dixit (Sully) and Sandy Anderson (Springfield).

I don’t disagree with you, but some of us are trying to warn the Lees Corner community here so they can be prepared. If there’s a feedback tool where people can leave comments on options, and Lees Corner going to Skyview instead of Crossfield is an option, the RIO people and their friends are going to flood the tool with comments about how great this option is. They already tried to do it when that Option E website was prematurely released. Do not discount this scenario just because it seems ridiculous. Certain Crossfield/Oakton parents are used to getting what they want because they feel that being very involved and taking leadership positions within their school and community means they are entitled to call the shots.
