http://www.wjla.com/articles/2014/05/second-confirmed-case-of-measles-in-d-c-metro-area---exposure-warning-103353.html looks like a yuppy that didn't vaccinated, e.g., Palisades Farmer's Market, Arrowine and Macaroon shop in Arlington... get your kids vaccinated! Our herd immunity is shot because of idiots. |
I was just reading about that. They really got around! |
Ha! I thought the same thing. That sounds like an incredibly busy and delicious day ![]() |
Looks like the South Riding Pediatrics is the common denominator in this and the other recent case. I remember a PP on the other thread swearing up and down that SRP only took vaccinated children as patients. I think we can safely assume that this is not the case now. |
Dumb question here: if we and our kids have been vaccinated there's no risk to us, right? Is the risk to kids who haven't yet been vaccinated or has the measles mutated in some way? |
If you and you kids are vaccinated it is pretty unlikely that you would get it, but vaccines are not 100%. |
There's not NO risk. Vaccines aren't 100% effective. But there is little risk. The main danger is to people who aren't vaccinated and people whose immune systems aren't working right. |
Yeah, or if you were there with your infant. Seriously, this shit makes my blood boil. I'm all for bringing back the town mob and showing up at this family's door with torches and pitchforks. Fucking selfish idiots. |
The risk is to newborns too young to be vaccinated yet, people with weak immune systems (cancer patients, those with chronic diseases/illness, etc) the elderly and pregnant women. |
Another dumb question since the warning mentions pregnant women, are pregnant women at higher risk even if they've been vaccinated? |
Of course a gifted school is on there. |
If you're not immune to rubella (Measles) [have not been vaccinated or not been previously infected with it] and you come down with this illness during early pregnancy, it could be devastating for your baby. You could have a miscarriage or your baby could end up with multiple birth defects and developmental problems. Congenital rubella syndrome, or CRS, is the name given to the pattern of problems caused when a baby is born with the virus.
I hate that people refuse this vaccination! This disease used to be pratically erradicated in the US and now all these crunchy people have allowed it to pop in clusters all over the US. Dumb.dumb.dumb. |
Rubella is German Measles, not the same thing as regular measles. So you wouldn't be at risk for rubella in this case. I'm assuming you are vaccinated, but maybe they're being cautious because pregnant women have a weakened immune system. |
These "I don't believe in vaccinations" people should be ashamed. Awful, just awful. |
Would you have had to gO to one of these places to be at risk? Or could secondary contact with someone who had been there expose you? |
