Fairfax County Double Murder

What is the big deal about reading the indictment? We know what crimes the grand jury felt there was enough evidence to charge him with, that’s the most important thing.

I received a copy of it and there’s no evidence outlined as others thought there might be. It literally just list the counts. Like this:

The Grand Jurors of the Commonwealth of Virginia, in and for the body of the County of Fairfax, and now attending the said Court at its September Term, 2024, charges that: On or about the 24th day of February 2023, in the County of Fairfax, Brendan Robert Banfield willfully, deliberately, and with premeditation did kill and murder Christine Banfield as a part of the same act or transaction during which he did also kill and murder Joseph Ryan.

During the indictment hearing, the grand jury was brought forth evidence on which they need to determine if there’s enough to indict the person. I think everyone was hoping the indictment documents would have that evidence listed since the indictment hearing was not made public and came as a surprise to everyone the morning of his arrest.

I believe grand jury hearings are typically not public. Indictments don’t usually include evidence, only the charges.

The grand jury hears the evidence and decides whether it is sufficient to go forward with charges. The trial is where the evidence is presented publicly, not the grand jury hearing.

Yes that is what they said.

The Washington Post article had me thinking that CB had emailed herself the photo around the same time she texted it to BB by their use of the word "she". Their language:

"A month before the killings, authorities said, Christine Banfield sent a picture of herself to her husband, which Magalhães’s lawyer said she also sent to herself in an email: a petite woman in a one-piece bathing suit."

Based on normal English language, the lawyer is saying that CB sent the photo to her husband AND to herself. It was not JM who sent CB's photo to herself (JM).

I can’t stand it when these “reporters” make fundamental screw ups. Trust me, I want BB away for life but that wasn’t his mug shot. In the shot they show he’s wearing a red shirt yet he was arrested while wearing a blue shirt. Come on! Double check!
