Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Good question. I think it starts with the adults. Parents, coaches, administrators at schools like Oakton, McLean, and Langley have different priorities, it appears, than their "peers" at Hayfield. For example, parents, coaches, administrators at schools like Oakton, McLean, and Langley seem to deprioritize things like illegal recruiting and winning at all costs and instead prioritize things like teaching the kids under their purview important life lessons. It also seems that parents, coaches, administrators at schools like Oakton, McLean, and Langley don't feel the need to live vicariously through their children, whereas parents at Hayfield do. So, because of this, at the end of the day, schools like Oakton, McLean, and Langley don't end up cheating at football. I am guessing that wasn't the answer you were looking for as you picked three very specific schools that might look demographically similar in nature and you were again trying to play the race card, but my answer is correct. Take the L. |
Mind sharing the URL for the new thread? I personally think there ought to be easy access to resources like the ones provided on the "Equity" page on the Hayfield page but the grammatical nightmare that is that page is of concern as is even the slightest bit of context on the links to the pieces being shared on it. |
Sure. You know for sure where do you want to stir the topic into. Genuine answer, its already tell alot about you. |
Only way I could guess relevant is gives window to maybe 1 person Reid talked to. Exec Dir reports to Reid’s Office so would make since if asked former counselor about school when this all started. But in end is School Board for this one and what they do, and right now they back Reid overwhelmingly. |

Smoke and mirrors/lip service email Marcia St. John-Cunning sent to her constituents this morning: Good Morning, Franconia District! I hope you’re enjoying a peaceful Sunday as we head into Thanksgiving week. I wanted to take a moment of your time to share the below statement and update on the ongoing situation involving the Hayfield football team. This is a complex and challenging matter, and I truly appreciate the community input and passion. I hear you. At the same time, I want to ensure that the information I share is accurate, measured, and grounded in reality—not rumors or innuendo. My focus is on all students who contribute to the football experience, including athletes, band members, cheerleaders, color guards, Junior ROTC, and others working hard to create a vibrant community spirit. They have dedicated themselves all season and deserve recognition for their efforts. I have actively engaged with students, staff, and families in the Hayfield community to understand concerns about student residency requirements and staff conduct. I’ve listened to perspectives from all sides and have consistently shared these concerns with FCPS leadership. The Facts The initial investigation in August focused specifically on student residency requirements and personnel matters. While other issues have emerged, the investigation remained centered on these core concerns. FCPS conducted a thorough investigation led by the Auditor General who reports directly to the School Board. Outside legal counsel Cynthia Hudson of Eppes-Hudson Law, PLLC reviewed the findings. Her analysis confirmed that the new student-athletes met the residency requirements. A summary is available on the FCPS website. The Virginia High School League (VHSL) VHSL has sole authority over student-athlete eligibility, including transfer cases. FCPS’s role is to verify student residency. Due to increased attention on the volume of student-athlete transfers, Hayfield Secondary School staff proactively met with VHSL in August to review the eligibility of each student-athlete before submitting the official Master Eligibility List. VHSL then conducted its standard eligibility review and approved the eligibility of all student-athletes who participated on the Hayfield football team this season. However, two months later, VHSL declared the entire team ineligible for postseason play without providing clear evidence or explanation. On November 15th, a judge granted the Hayfield student-athletes and parents a temporary injunction allowing the team to participate in postseason play citing ambiguities in VHSL’s policies and rules. Further hearings for a final ruling are scheduled for December 4. Moving Forward The Hayfield football situation has raised community concerns about the treatment of student-athlete transfers, adherence to the VHSL Proselytizing Rule, fairness, and sportsmanship. This feedback highlights the need for a broader discussion on preserving the core values of high school athletics—integrity, teamwork, and personal growth. I support Superintendent Dr. Reid’s announced plans for a comprehensive, independent review of student-athlete transfer and eligibility practices across ALL FCPS sports and schools including Hayfield. Two community conversations will help inform updates to FCPS protocols, policies, and regulations. I invite you to participate in these conversations. Your voice matters, and I’m committed to keeping you informed with transparency and accuracy. Kind Regards, Marcia Signature First Name Only |

I'm not parsing all the BS in that constituent letter - but "However, two months later, VHSL declared the entire team ineligible for postseason play without providing clear evidence or explanation." is patently false. VHSL produced a 5-page letter detailing the evidence/explanation and conducted 3 appeal discussions. Those are the true "facts".
Wish SB would realize that nobody (and I mean nobody) cares what they think or gives their fake lip service/"I care" BS any consideration whatsoever. |
+ 1,000! A desperate and disingenuous attempt to cover their A. |
|
That letter is wildly inaccurate. Did she post it online anywhere with open comments?
And why did she only talk to Hayfield stakeholders? ALL FCPS students, teachers, and parents have a stake in this cheating scandal. |
| I am starting to think these SB members do not even understand the controversy. |
| She didn't mention that she voted to rubber stamp the initial investigation in August? |
| To the person who posted the Marcia letter- was it really signed: “Kind Regards, Marcia Signature First Name Only”???? If so, it’s the most blatant tell me you didn’t write this yourself that without telling me! |
| The VHSL specifically found that FCPS's residency checks did not include 15 out of 24 transfers and were not sufficient on several of the 9 they did check. |
And voted against external investigation in summer. Pushing Reid narrative, including solely focused on Hayfield. |
Mostly they don't and they want to move on to their issues that they do understand. They don't want to deal with this issue that has nothing to do with them. Except that it does. Ignoring a problem works sometimes. Other times, it doesn't. We'll see which one this is. |
Yes but FCPs only asked about those so they should have been good enough. No reason to look at anything else. No, don’t look over there. Stop looking. We already told you what to look at. |
