But they were in separate rooms and the fire started in the child' bedroom and then didn't fully ignite the other room. It is clear that the other three were killed by trauma because their bodies were never consumed in flame. The child is unclear at best, but likely also beat (please, god quickly) and dead or nearly so (i.e. unconscious) when fire started.

I'd like to think he was in the other room, his bedroom, in bed out of kindness. They were letting the kid lie down.

Out of kindness? It would be nice to believe that, but I don't. Phillip's cause of death was thermal injuries: BURNS and sharp force injuries: STAB wounds. No kindness involved. It was sick, sadistic behavior. How horrifying for his family to have to know these details.

Exactly. And separated from his parents while all of this was going on?

PP, I'm sorry, but how dare you use the word "kindness" in any sentence or paragraph referring to these animals that killed him.

I would like to think that it wasn't complete hell for this little boy, that he got to lie down and sleep for some of it. How dare me not want it to have been 15 hours of pain and agony and desperate fear?

I am like you pp. Before I read that the little boy was still alive at the time of the fire, I fantasied that the perps gave him something strong to sleep and then cut his throat or while he was sleeping so he wouldn't have to go through that one last fear of seeing someone coming at you with a knife and knowing you are going to die.

But it seems he was not only still alive at the time of the fire which is horrible in itself, but he heard his parents being murdered brutally.

You just don't get it, do you?

There really is evil in the world. Why is that so hard for some people to swallow?

I doubt that, in the end, the child was hearing what was happening to his parents. My strong suspicion is that it was the other way around.

In any case, he was separated from his parents during this terrible ordeal and no doubt scared out of his mind.

Yes, obviously.

Savvas, 46, was the President and CEO of American Iron Works, the construction company that helped build the Verizon Center sports arena. "He was a very kind man, a very gentle man," AIW Vice President of Environmental Safety and Health Robert Hodge tells PEOPLE. "He was the best person I ever worked for."

Hodge says that Savvas, a devoted father of three, always made time for his family, despite being in charge of a major business. "He was very family oriented," he says. "His family meant the world to him."

Together, they started a school called the American Institute of Welding to "help people who had lost their jobs for whatever reason get back on their feet," says Hodge.

"I am in shock," he adds. "This is such a terrible tragedy. He was so kind. A wonderful, wonderful man."

Was looking for something backthread, and thought this was a wonderful tribute to SS. Also, maybe Wint (and his relative who was recently fired from AIW?) were trained by American Institute of Welding?

When I read through all of this stuff, I think I am subconsciously hoping that I'm going to find the loophole, revise something, and it turns out that the 4 of them escape. Some different phone call. Some random stroke of good luck. Does anyone else find themselves reading and hoping they can somehow revise the ending?

maybe enough to draw attention from the wrong sorts

I'm seeing a fascination with fancy cars from many of these people.

Yes, the dominoes guy, the housekeepers husband, the assistant, neighbor figure it out before it's too late

17:33 Yes. I do the same. That poor boy & family.

If this assistant idiot turned out to un knowingly tipped these guys off with his big mouth / instagram .....

is there a link to assistant's instagram account?
Anonymous
Yes. I wish we could undo this. I want it not to have happened.

Even if the assistant wasn't involved why in the hell did he take a pic of the money. This makes me so angry. How irresponsible even if none of this ever happened.

So many opportunities. So many efforts on SS's part to communicate "things are not right in my house, please send help."

I do the same -- I no longer live in DC, and so it's even easier to imagine that I'm just reading about a fictional story or a television plot or anything as utterly horrific as this, including the two daughters left behind, one of whom was to have been celebrating her graduation rather than the lives of her parents and little brother.

The guy seems to have liked showing off the toys that came with his job. When he was delivering the money he had no idea that it was being criminally extorted. He wanted to show off the money to impress his friend.

I'm wondering if he realized this in someway and was ashamed/scared, resulting in the tears and misrepresentation
