Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
DP. First phrase is your opinion. Second sentence is wrong, as Coates is poorer than London Towne. Third sentence is correct. |
Obviously, but much of Floris goes to Westfield now, too. Also don't forget that some of Coates is getting rezoned to Herndon. |
I think that part is already zoned to Herndon High. But, it is the poorest part. |
| Skyview demographics will be like Carson's. |
Nope. Carson’s demographics include a lot of AAP kids who won’t end up zoned to Skyview. The only way the demographics will be like Carson’s will be if they adjust the Carson boundaries to align with Skyview’s and then have AAP at every middle school. |
This is the plan. |
| The AAP kids and either the Oakton or South Lakes kids will not get assigned from Carson to Skyview. There isn’t enough room for all of them. Skyview will be 50% full from Coates and McNair. The new school will have a TJ feel the first two years and then the assigned neighborhoods will show up and the school will have a new feel to it. Don’t think that’s necessarily a bad thing, but any staff that aren’t prepared for a change will struggle. |
You are forgetting about Oak Hill kids. Lots of AAP kids there. |
Spot on. |
After the expansion, it should have more room. They don’t need those stupid pods. |
| My child is from Carson AAP and from what I see at the parents meetings, the vibe will be TJ for at least this year. It will be a shame if they turn this into a traditional school that wlll be on the small side and will have two years of kids heavy into math and stem and then a general student body that is into a million things, but I can't control FCPS. To me, this region has a dire need for stem magnet schools and even if they drop it after this year, the magnet/stem vibe will persist for the 9/10th graders. |
Reid was expressly directed to open Skyview as a traditional high school from day one. Get over yourselves with the TJ 2.0 nonsense. |
Someone's clearly not a Carson parent! |
I am a Carson parent and I am fine with it being a traditional HS, the area needs a traditional HS. |
Sorry you're not going to get your western TJ but do know that YOUR child's cohort will be the same 9-12.
