Oh, I think the Democrats thought that there would be upside in trying to damage Trump. It may end up misfiring badly based on the recent polling. Abuse of power and obstruction of Congress are pretty nebulous concepts to most Americans. And, quite honestly, it does not help when the front runner for the Democratic nomination has a son who was totally unqualified for the position he got in Ukraine making a million dollars a year ..... quite apart from his personal foibles. It affirms for most Americans that the system is fundamentally corrupt.

Except for the ABC poll, the other polls show more Americans support impeachment and removal. And an astounding 74% of those polled want the Senate to have legitimate witnesses at the Removal proceedings.

There was a Gallup poll and one by USA today as well as one by CNN ....... all showed declining support for impeachment. All in the past couple of days.

Popular or not, it’s the right thing to do. No one is above the law.

To paraphrase Tennyson: "Into the Valley of Death rode the Democrats"

Exactly. Sometimes doing the right thing is very hard. Yet it must still be done.

Of course, that is from Tennyson's "Charge of the Light Brigade" and as a result of a flawed order that was given, 600 British soldiers rode to their death ....... the followed the order though they knew it was flawed. They did the "right thing" and were slaughtered.

The "decline" I've seen looked a lot like statistical noise. At the end of the day, more Americans than not support impeachment -- which stands to reason, because using public money to buy a foreign government's help in an election is disqualifying.

wow, what a stupid post.

+1. I guess PP doesn’t remember that the House was voting in Clinton’s impeachment while he and his family were lighting the White House Christmas Tree.

And Clinton's popularity went up dramatically after the impeachment.

Hmm! Except that Trump will continue as president because he will not be removed. So much for disqualifying ..........

He was in the 40s in 2016 and won the election.

Yeah, I remember this. Because he lied about a consensual, but ill advised affair. And, someone went to prison rather than testify in front of Congress.

Now we have a President who has violated campaign finance laws, the emoluments clause, and asked foreign governments (probably twice at this point) to help him win elections. Has not testified on his behalf, members of his administration refuse to testify and still aren't in jail, and conservatives in the Senate openly agree in the media they will not have a fair trial.

The question is whether citizens regard impeachment for lying under oath about a blowjob as being significantly different from impeachment for using national security money to pay a foreign government to interfere in our elections.

Clinton's net approval was 20 points better at this point in his Presidency than Trump's. (Clinton was at +11.9% while Trump is at -8.5). A better comparison is Obama whose net approval was -2.3 at this point. But none of them are great comparisons. Other Presidents had their approval and disapproval fluctuate. Trump's is pretty well locked in and barely moves one way or the other.

You may not like hearing this but most Americans don't give a crap about this for two reasons: first, they believe the entire process is partisan and second, they hear about Hunter Biden making out like a bandit - even if it was legal - and they realize that the system is fundamentally corrupt.

But the Trumps gritting off their position is just peachy? Clean your own house first.
