Very interesting. I wonder what percentage is accepted from FCPS v Loudoun County?
Anonymous
Number of blacks increased significantly (from around typically 5 or 6 per year to 10 while number of Hispanics decreased significantly (from typically about 16/17 to 8).

I'm surprised they gender-imbalanced the class that badly.

WTF does that mean. You get in by testing.
Anonymous
You don't get in by testing. Once the applicants overcome the very low hurdle to select the semifinalists, the admissions office uses "holistic" means to select whoever they want to select.

The number of applicants was the lowest in six years, and down to 2900 from over 3400 two years ago. Why is TJ losing its appeal?

Not PP, but I am pretty sure that is exactly why s/he is surprised by the gender imbalance.

And, no need for cursing.

Look at the "before" and "after" percentages. There was near equality before the selection and a wide divide after selection. Same with the Asian stats. To me, it speaks to a problem in the selection criteria.

Whites are too scared to compete with bunch of smart Asians. Number of black and Hispanic applicants remained about the same for the same period and the number of Asian applications increased somewhat. Only the white applications declined. Bunch of wussies. The world is becoming a Global Marketplace. Face the competition and face the challenge instead of running scared.

The number of Asian applicants also declined this year over last year. It could be they don't think attending a school in the U.S. that is two-thirds Asian will really prepare them to succeed in this country. Or maybe the area has just gotten so congested that Asian students don't want to commute back and forth from places like Chantilly, Herndon, McLean and Ashburn to Alexandria.

Nice assumption. Perhaps many students have noted the demographic and cultural changes (robot students, anyone?) at TJ and decided they'd prefer a different environment. I'd call that running sane, not scared. TJ is not right for every competitive intellectually gifted student.

The most disappointing number is the percentage of poor students - less than one percent.

I don't think anybody should be disappointed, this is the way life is without any type of manipulations.
