I know a kid who was asked to leave TJ for academic reasons and went back to her base school and now she is in top 5% of her class. |

Question: What's the most boring thread on DCUM?
Answer: Anything to do with TJ, most especially this thread. |
No, that's crap. SOME of the ones in the top 10% will be TJ students, to be sure. But MANY of the top 10% will be non-TJ students. Don't be ridiculous. |
Only about 100 TJ students choose to go to UVA. Another 100 or so who are accepted by UVA choose to go somewhere else. |
Five most popular majors for 2012 graduates, according to U.Va.’s Office of Institutional Assessment and Studies (numbers in parentheses are the number of bachelor degrees conferred): Politics (425 total; 297 Foreign Affairs, 128 Government) The Politics Department is home to more majors than any other department in the College. On average since 2000, more than 700 students each year have concentrated in one of its two majors—Government or Foreign Affairs—for their bachelor’s degree. Interdisciplinary (413) The Interdisciplinary Major Program gives students in the College the opportunity to design an individual program of study instead of pursuing a regular department major. Medical Ethics, Psychobiology, Irish Studies, Physical Anthropology, Post-Modern Studies and Philosophical Psychology are examples of some of the kinds of programs students have created. Economics (373) The Department of Economics now occupies Monroe Hall and has 700 undergraduate students pursuing degrees. Psychology (361) The Department of Psychology offers undergraduate degrees in a wide variety of sub-disciplines. Study ranges from examining human development and complex thought processes to social relations, brain and neural mechanisms and psychopathology. Commerce (329) The McIntire School of Commerce was ranked 5th by U.S. News and World Report in 2012. Source: http://uvamagazine.org/articles/top_5_majors comment: ron cox (BSEE 75, MEE 79) on 2013 04 21 It may be the engineer in me, but I note that if you add all of the engineering fields, the total far surpasses politics. We had a common core of classes for the first years and then chose an area of specilization for more in-depth study. |
You have to remember that many TJ students that enroll at UVA turned down colleges better than UVA unlike most of the students that come from other high schools who were thrilled they ere accepted by UVA. UVA is a safety for most TJ students. |
Even if that's true, it still doesn't follow that the top 10% of UVA is all TJ students. That's just a stupid statement. There are plenty of other NOVA students in the top 10% of UVA. For one thing, some students simply blossom in college when they find their real areas of interest. Not to mention all the other students who do exist who are just as smart and hardworking as TJ students and end up at UVA too. TJ has brilliant, hardworking students, yes. But they don't have a monopoly on that. |
No one said top 10% will be ALL TJ students. The post said "TJ students will be the ones in the top 10%". There is a difference. |
The statement said that's how you could tell the TJ students from the other NoVA students, so it was implying that all of the top 10% of those from NoVA are TJ. And that's silly. It's not even true that the TJ students will all end up in top 10%. There's much more variability than that. Many kids get to college and lose their way without parents over them. That applies to TJ kids just as it does to non-TJ kids. |
anyone has stats which middle school fed most number of students to TJ? |
which one has the most Asians? That'll be your answer. Not exactly rocket science. |
Why is everyone so racist against asians. I see Hone conveniently lump them in as white instead of a minority. Ridiculously stupid. |
