2021 VA Governors race

I would feel a lot warmer toward Youngkin if he would just come out and say that the presidential election was legitimate and Trump needs to get over it. Like Larry Hogan did! I also want to hear more about his stance on gun control, or probably lack thereof because he’s a Republican. But it’s an important issue to me.

Likewise, I’d feel a lot warmer toward Terry and the other Democrats if they were stronger on school reopening and other education issues. I want them to dump all the VMPI nonsense. Never thought we’d be in a place in this state where Republicans seem to care more about schools and public education, but here we are.

All of this. If McAuliffe (or whomever the D nominee is) stays silent on these education issues, I think its really going to hurt them.

Yes agree, D’s are staying silent with this whole VMPI thing, equity Ed and CRT so it makes me think they all are on board. Terry will keep VDOE members since some of his own people are still there from years ago. Non of them has responded to me regarding those issues.

If you think D’s are going to say anything against equity and CRT, you’re going to be waiting forever.

I do think they will come up with some flowery language to downplay VMPI, but they’ll push it through. VDOE has been working towards this for a long time and the folks there aren’t going anywhere.

Will this be true even if Youngkin wins? Serious question because I am incredibly mad about VMPI.

DP, I’m actually not sure. I’ve heard that the getting rid of “tracking,” keeping everyone in the same math class until well into HS, more emphasis on different types of math as opposed to mostly Calculus, is part of nationwide math changes happening even in red states. Though, historically, red states haven’t been great on education anyway.

All of my suburban mom friends are voting for Youngkin based on far left policies severely impacting education. CRT and this math fiasco is going to be major issue driving people to the polls.

Glenn Youngkin said he would fire them all.

Fairfax and LCPS have moves to recall the school board, run by openFCPS and FightForSchools. This will likely be needed in addition to a Youngkin win to keep advanced math in LCPS and maybe FCPS.

Qarni will be out no matter which candidate wins.

I hope this is true. I don’t want to vote for Youngkin but so annoyed at VDOE right now.

Qarni is not the problem. It will be the same with another Dem appointment. VMPI's Tina Mazzacane has expressed support for eliminating tracking.
There are others in their web videos. Upon seeing that teachers were opposed to heterogeneous classrooms, one guy Ian Shenk said,'We still have a lot of work to do.'
They have done a temporary walkback ahead of the election, but will look to walkback their walkback later, and also work with county staff to keep it under the radar.

LCPS has removed the chart that made national headlines, but has not walked back the changes they have already implemented- eliminating math advancement in middle school starting in 2023-2024.

Are Ds really stupid enough to vote for Terry McAuliffe because of his fake embrace of the far left’s equity agenda, when he lives in a mansion in McLean and sent his own kids to Potomac and Langley (the most segregated public school in NoVa)? On par with Rs voting for Trump as if the Donald ever cared about the middle class.

When the alternatives are who they are, Terry looks like the best choice. At least he has the experience.

Have you followed what Republican run states are doing? “Audits” of the 2020 election, changes to limit voting, limit protesting, bans on abortion ...? Have you followed what the national Republican party is doing? Bowing to the former president, clinging to lies spread about the 2020 election, and trying to win the next election. No effort to actually do their job and help the country.

The VA election is important if you want us to have a functioning democracy. It’s not about local education efforts.

Exactly. Rooting for Jennifer Carroll Foy but I’ll hold my nose for McAuliffe if I must. We absolutely cannot walk back the progress we have made in Virginia.
