Not for that price. A blue sky and palm trees + pretty landscaping is every Florida college. UMiami is not as nice as the public ones imo.

I don't get it either but to each his own, right? I wish this push made it easier to get into the colleges in the Northeast but the competition is fiercer than ever.

+1

It has been a HUGE trend this year.

+ UCs

California is the 5th largest economy in the world on its own (and soon to be 4th), wipes the floor with every other state in the critical area of innovation, and has the the top 2 public institutions (along with 6 of the top 15 publics) in the country, but sure - totally overrated.

They should actually pay people to attend these dumps that somehow magically whomp whomp all over everyone else in the student ratings despite being so terribly overrated. In fact, can we get the fugazi UC grad. school lecturer in here now to regale us once again with tales of 3,500 student (no, it’s now 5,000 students!) in required classes at Berkeley and UCLA?!

lol

Please provide these student ratings where the UCs "whomp whomp" on everyone else.

Do your own research. Trust and believe you'll find an abundance of student satisfaction data to back-up the "whomp whomp" claim, and certainly much more than you'll find data supporting the claim of a supposed TA with an ax to grind and a fundamental misunderstanding of population capacity in UCLA lecture halls.

I don't think that's fair. Florida, Texas, Georgia Tech, UVA, UNC, Virginia Tech, even USC and Alabama are all better than any public university in the northeast.

Northeastern, Colby, Rhodes
& mid tier state schools OOS (UGA, UTenn, Clemson, UC Irvine) when they got into William&Mary or VT

Colby is in the top 10% of LACs in the country. You don’t have to love the college, but why would that make you scratch your head?

Colby and Northeastern are in pretty similar camps. They are decent schools that try to produce a good set of graduates with quality jobs, and they succeed.

The others you listed-yeah, I think those are for more mediocre students. I will say UC Irvine, while not in the best location, is a very strong education in the West US.

-What makes it very strong? Uci is the definition of overrated. Propped up in great part on the w.coast because of the sheer # of ca kids & parents coping that their kids didn't get into cal or ucla. Also partly propped up as as of late they seem to be yield-protecting against kids they think are likely in at cal or ucla. Blah school, mostly blah kids.

I don't know why you sound so bitter. California just knows how to properly invest in public universities and make a strong chain of the top/best students at Berkeley and LA. They have more top students than spaces for public universities, giving them a very strong overall system. Name another state university system that has 9 universities all ranked in the top 100, I'll wait....

Much of the UC system is incredibly young-UCLA only recently turned 100 years old. I don't think they're overrated, because they have a smart population. Maybe Massachusetts and New Jersey-states known for their strong public schools-should get their shit together when it comes to public universities instead.

For the DCUM crowd one each from DC, MD, and VA. They are Georgetown, UM and UVA.

Oh my god. Irvine CA is one of the most desireable places to live on the entire planet. What are you smoking? Have you have ever been to south Orange County? My god, I thought I read it all.

Overrated are those schools helicopter parents hate because their kid didn't get into it,or their kids enemy did.

UMiami is a great school. Ditto for Colby. Same for UNC, etc.

If I could pay for every DCUM to take a quick trip to California and explore LA/OC, it would make me genuinely so happy. They often miss the mark and are still talking about issues from the 80s.

Anyone who thinks OC is a bad location is seriously out of their depth. The beaches there are beyond world class, the quality of life is very high, and the diversity is beautiful as people sought communities beyond LA. Id rather be in Irvine than Charlottesville- that’s for damn sure
